X-MEN '97 Promo Poster Highlight's The Team's Updated Costumes And The Heroic Magneto's New Look

We still don't have a premiere date for X-Men '97, but a new promo poster has offered perhaps our best look yet at the show's heroes and Magneto's updated costume as he joins the ranks of the X-Men...

X-Men: The Animated Series first hit our screens in 1992 and ran for a total of 76 episodes. The show was an instant hit with comic book fans and delivered a near-perfect take on the mutant team that resonates to this day.

Marvel Studios reviving this animated universe in the upcoming Disney+ series X-Men '97 is news which has been welcomed by fans. Most of the original returns to pick up where the original series left off, while a second season is already in development.

However, we'd like to actually see the first batch of episodes before getting too excited about that. As of now, though, there's still no word on a premiere date, and it's looking increasingly unlikely we'll see X-Men '97 this side of the New Year.

In the meantime, merchandise for the show continues finding its way into stores, including a very cool new poster (which we first shared on Toonado.com).

Taking centre stage on that are Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Rogue, Jean Grey, Beast, Professor X, and Magneto. The latter is decked out in a new costume, with the villain undergoing a major status quo shift in X-Men '97 when he joins the ranks of the X-Men.

That's an exciting development for the former leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, albeit one we know the comic book readers among you will be familiar with.

The X-Men will eventually be rebooted for live-action, and X-Men '97 seems like a great way to familiarise many fans with the team before they join the MCU. After all, Fox's movies are quickly becoming a distant memory and, outside of a few exceptions, are best off forgotten.

Take a closer look at this new promo poster for this upcoming animated series below.

Not sure about the art style.

Didnt expect them to use the same models as the original but some of the faces especially the girls look kind of off

@dracula - Eyebrows are thin, but still way too thick for '97.

I thought they were using the same artist/studio that did Voltron for Netflix? I could’ve sworn I seen concept art of it.

Um... What? What happened to 97? An updated art style isn't the point of reviving a classic show.

I was already on the fence if I REALLY cared enough to watch this revival. THIS kinda shit shows they don't know it care about what they are doing. It's just a cash in on an IP they bought, not really good story telling.

Wolverine in the middle…
Hope that he aint the protagonist, the cool thing about the OG show was that Cyclops is the leader and wolverine is another regular member of the team, like it should be

Cool and all, but that animation style doesn’t have the same nostalgia.

We’re picking up where the series left off with the same voice actors, I thought we were getting the same general animation style although obviously improved over the quality of the 90’s.

Here’s hoping that poster is its own thing and not necessarily an exact example of what we’re getting.

I could live with it if it is, but I’m a huge proponent of if it ain’t broken don’t fix it

Excellent job with the research, Josh.

First off, this has nothing to do with the animation. These are designs done specifically for merchandising purposes. The same has been done with non-X-Men characters. In fact, these are the same designs you see for the Disney+ avatars.

Secondly, just by clicking the link in the tweet, you’d see this poster comes from…..2021/2022. I get it though. Anything for the clicks.

@DTor91 - the first mistake was expecting Wilding to give a shit about what he posts and have integrity

Had super low expectations for this from the beginning. The original series didn't age well either.

Japanese intro still kills.

@Nightmare - I mean that's cool and all, but I still feel bad for them for being denied what is possibly the coolest opening to any cartoon ever.

This is NOT from the new show. These designs are from a few years ago. They were used for Happy Color X-Men pics.

https://www.google.dk/search?sxsrf=AB5stBgYwvhhcyJ8WpJPrD2k3HVlUwz0Dw:1691390839414&q=happy+color+x-men&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiU06Hx-cmAAxX6RPEDHTZcDMoQ0pQJegQIChAB&biw=384&bih=718&dpr=2.81

I actually thought these would be the used in the new show but then we got the official art which said otherwise.

@dragon316 - Yeah, not my favorite suit but I like the art style, way over what we see here. Luckilly as @CorndogBurglar and others pointed out the top art is not from the cartoon and the article is just wrong.

This is fake news. I'm starting to see a trend of this Josh Wilding guy never knowing what he's talking about. I also see LOTS of people commenting that Josh is always reporting things wrong, BUT, people keep clicking on his articles, and commenting. THIS is how he makes money, by people clicking on his articles and commenting. you know what you gotta do to make him stop making uniformed articles filled with misinformation? stop licking on anything with his name attatched.

What the even heck, Josh?! Change your titles, they are misleading.
MikeyL
MikeyL - 8/8/2023, 7:33 AM
@NegativeNerd - if he had ANY integrity, he’d update it to say he was incorrect. But then that would also prove that he doesn’t research what he writes on and is only interested in clicks, so he won’t.
