Matthew Vaughn And James McAvoy Clash Before Filming X-Men: First Class!

The director reveals that McAvoy is still in the movie (but only just!) and briefly comments on how he thinks the actor will do as Charles Xavier. Read on for details...

As those of you who live in the UK will more than likely know, Matthew Vaughn is a firm supporter of the closing of the UK Film Council which he believes will help the industry develop a better organisation. However, The Daily Mail report that this annoyed James McAvoy but has assured fans that it wont affect his role in X-Men: First Class.

"James and I have discussed this. He's still in the movie...just. James is an actor and actors don't necessarily know what's best for them. That's on the record."

"But he's a brilliant actor and he'll be great in this film."

I'm sure that those of you looking forward to X-Men: First Class will be relieved that their spat didnt lead to anyone leaving the project but as this interview was published in print, it's hard to tell whether or not he was joking about McAvoy only "just" still being in the movie! Regardless, share your thoughts about this news in the usual place!

Nice find Josh! I still find this entire cast odd. Hopefully this will be the only "clash" in the future.

DCMF: Lol, thanks man! :) Yeah, this whole movie is really shaping up to be one of the oddest CBM's we've seen so far. Between the obscure characters, crazy continuity and blatant disregard of the source material, I find it hard to see how it'll end up being any good!

@DC- Agreed, it's an odd gathering, but Vaughn will make it work.

Something about this statement annoys me. Probably overreacting, but that sounds kind of douchey.

@InTylerWeTrust-I agree, I don't like the way that sounds. Mathew Vaughn kinds sounds like an ass. He's a good filmmaker but in the commentary for Kick-Ass and this statement here, I comes off kind of like a jerk.

@ grif

the whole x-universe doesn't just revolve around wolverine,i agree his probably the most popular mutant out there.

if it was the original five it would of been epic, the current line up of charactors excluding professor-x,magneto & the beast.

its gonna fail.

the only remotely intresting additional charactors are havok & emma frost.

TYLER: Yeah, I got that impression when I first read this news. It's as if him being a director makes him "better" than the lowly actors he orders around, lol! That's how I read into it anyway...

deadpool72: I 110% AGREE! :)

McAvoy must have seen the script like Alice Eve did,and is trying to jump ship before it sinks...Just a thought...

Tyler - I'm with you 100%. That one sentence tells me he's a fakir with little or no respect for the very people who breath life into his visions, thus giving him an income! As for his views on the UK film council, it makes no sense whatsoever!

You know a film is doomed when there are problems: Alice Eve leaving the project and now MacAvoy clashing with Vaughn.

Just so everyone knows, I'm making an extensive Marvel Universe fan cast that reboots the entire "X-Men" movie franchise (though it's gonna be hard to find someone to step into Patrick Stewart/Hugh Jackman's shoes; both actors did such an amazing job).

Guys, you have to consider that The Daily Mail is a rubbish tabloid in the UK and they make up crap as much as report actual news.

If anything happened at all, I'd say this is greatly exagerrated.

blaze byrne: The Daily Mail isnt a tabloid, it's a pretty serious (and respected) newspaper even if they're one of those that blame violence on video games! :P

SHHH: It really will be that bad IMO. Just go back through the X-Men news archive here on CBM and you'll see DCMF's article on what Singer had to say about the movie. Make sure you have a vomit bag to hand!

ElGuason: Judging by that picture, he's a pretty perfect choice for the role. It's just a pity they plan on leaving him with a full head of hair...[frick]ing Fox!
