After spending several years in development with producer Jerry Weintraub (Ocean's Eleven) attached, Warner Bros.' big screen adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan finally has a director. According to Vulture, David Yates, who previously worked with WB on the last four Harry Potter movies, committed to the adaptation (which is said to be his next project) earlier this week. Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) was previously interested in Tarzan before backing out. As for who may be playing the King of the Jungle, Vulture say that Yates is meeting with some up-and-coming actors such as Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim) and Henry Cavill (Man Of Steel). Additionally, WB want to have a meeting with Tom Hardy after the actor worked with the studio on Christopher Nolan's Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, but whether or not Hardy is interested in the project is currently unknown. Who do you want to see play Tarzan?

Well, I hope it's good. If it starts a series, I wish they would show Tarzan's character growth from savage to educated noble.

Just if he met up with Henry Cavill to discuss about the Justice League movie...yeah, he's one of my top candidates by now. Either him, the Wachowskis, Brad Bird, or even Duncan Jones...one may dream!

As for Tarzan, has there been any details about the movie? I hope it sticks closer to Edgar Rice Burroughs' book. And I'd rather see a lesser-known name in the title role.

I will be upset if this goes better than John Carter. John Carter is the better Edgar Rice Burroughs character.

A live action Tarzan is box office poison. Tarzan TV shows can't get more than a season, and his live-action outings have ended with meager box-office totals for the last 30 years. Edgar Rice Burroughs most popular box office creation is a thing of the past.

A guy swinging around in a lions-cloth was a hero suitable for the early 1900's. Updating Tarzan is sacrilegious to it's fan base (mostly guys in their 90's) and leaving him the same is unappealing to most people under 90. However, most updates have ended in failure.

He is best left to Disney's animation department.

TARZAN

Instead of trying to revive Tarzan, how about bringing Turok to life?

Turok

I don't know about you, but robots and dinosaurs are way more interesting than hunters and chimpanzees.

I am very interested to see new Tarzan movie. You people forget the city of Opal, vicious Leopard Men. He has also faced dinosaurs, Cavemen and more fictional creatures like giant insects, Spiders, Snakes and tribes of Amazon Women, Birdmen and Monkeymen. Those are things i wanna see in new Tarzan movie. More fantasy and adventure based storyline is must.

Henry Cavill would be great Tarzan.

@NOMIS Being a fan of Burroughs and Tarzan since I can remember, I agreee with you 100% that Greystoke was and still is the best Tarzan movie made to date. My hope is that they treat the property with respect to both the author and the character.

I really would like to see a successful live-action Tarzan movie for my generation. Disney nailed it, but it could be so much more different if it were PG13.

Cavill is by far the best actor for the part in that category.

Skaarsgaard would be better for the antagonist (if its anything like the guy from the Disney movie, AS could play that role.) Plus, Cavill is already the right build for Tarzan.

Funny, I decided to recently watch Tarzan, The Epic Adventures on Hulu. Lara actually made a pretty decent Tarzan with his look and physical acting. Not the greatest actor in the world.

If there is a live action Tarzan, I would want to see some of the fantastical/mysterious aspects of Africa, or at least a subtle nod to it for potential sequels. I wouldn't be opposed to Momoa, but probably too close to the Conan character though.

AWESOME! I've been reading the first Tarzan book and I hope they stick close to the brutal source material. They've got a great director attatched and are considering some great actors (though I'd rather have Skarsgard as Clayton). Just great news all around.

@Navyblue8: Thanks! Glad to hear we are getting more Superman fans here! I'm sure LP4 feels the same!
He's a great actor and basically has a certain look that he can play almost any character! He'd be pretty perfect for Tarzan!
Oh, and welcome to CBM! ;D
