UPDATE: Anthony Horowitz On Idris Elba In BOND Films: "He Is Probably A Bit Too “Street” For Bond"

James Bond Author Anthony Horowitz had a bit to say about Idris Elba in Bond films. And those words weren't applauding, nor supporting for Elba the role.

While talking with the Daily Mail, author Anthony Horowitz, who wrote the new Bond novel Trigger Mortis, expressed his thoughts about Idris Elba in Bond films, and reveals that he thinks Elba shouldn't have got the role. Why? Well, it seems as though he thinks Elba is a bit too "street" to play that role. "Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better. For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too “street” for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”

Idris Elba has appeared in many films such as Pacific Rim, Prometheus, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom ,and as many of you may know, he's appeared in many Marvel Cinematic Universe films. In these films, I'm sure we can all agree that Elba's performance was incredible! Anthony Horowitz revealed his true feelings, but hey, his opinions are his own.

Anyhow, Anthony Horowitz doesn't in any way have any control over the any of the Bond films, so I doubt you'll have to worry about Idris getting replaced, or fired by the company execs. Because just like us, I'm sure they love the idea of
Elba starring in their film! With Spectre opening in theaters Nov. 6, sound off below in the comment section with your thoughts regarding Horowitz's words!
UPDATE: It appears that Anthony Horowitz decided to speak out on the recent outrage coming from his comments regarding Idris Elba. Via Twitter, he issued an apology, and said he picked his words "clumsily," and that he's "mortified to have caused offence". You can take a look at his full statement below!

I always though Henry Cavill should be the next James Bond. They would be his films in between his Superman roles.

But then again, I'd rather have him as the greatest secret agent in the world....Sterling Archer

he is also way too [frick]ing old, he is already 42, we don't need a bond who starts out at 45

The only thing worse than his comment is the imminent defense of it.

Cavill would be the most uncharismatic Bond ever.

Where is Scorpion with his sarcastically patronizing comments about being Black?

It's funny when people day Elba is too old. He's 42 y but ththe dude looks great for his age. Affleck is 43, RDJ is 50. Age isn't as much of a factor as it used to be. Elba plays physical roles like Luther. He's capable.
And also:

Ladies love Idris lol

"For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part."

Seeing as he didn't even list one "better black actor", I'm going to go out on a limb and assume the worst about him.

Yeah and also Cavill will have the benefit of not having to abandon his accent in this case.

Ironically, this guy's response was the most politically correct way you could word "I don't want a black Bond." Yet instead of just saying that, he digs a deeper hole.

How is someone a terrific actor yet too street? This isn't Michael K. Williams we're talking about.

Bond isn't black...He's been a white male for 60+ years. Ian Fleming commissioned an artist in the 60s to sketch what Bond looked like and he looked like Clive Owen does today. Bond was never a code name, that's 100% confirmed.

I have no issue with a black 007, but their name won't be James Bond. Why not create a new character like 004 that's black and could work alongside Bond or have their own adventures, why mess with established back story for no other reason than because...

@MexicanSuperman - Dude this is the guy that should play the next Bond and one can argue that this is not the perfect match for this role!

Sux it haters!

@YeezusWept

Every time someone uses "PC" to describe a change in ethnicity for a character they're basically saying, "The only reason he/she got the job is because they're Black". It's like using "Affirmative Action hire" to discredit a minority's competency and qualifications for a job.
