DEADPOOL 2 Star Morena Baccarin Would Like To Be The First Woman To Play British Super Spy James Bond

After expressing interest in both Catwoman and Poison Ivy, there's another iconic character that Deadpool 2 star Morena Baccarin would love to portray, James Bond. Check it out...

With Bond 25 serving as Daniel Craig's last foray into the world of Ian Fleming's 007, eyes are naturally turned to who will don the bowtie and Walther next. Many names turn up time and again, the likes of Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston and the not named Tom; Idris Elba.

Now another name has been thrown into the ring, one that certainly isn't Tom. It's Baccarin, Morena Baccarin, who will next be seen on screen playing Vanessa in FOX's highly anticipated Deadpool 2.

In an interview with CinePop, the actress voiced her frustrations at playing passive characters or love interests with Baccarin stating that she really wants to be an action star.  Revealing to the interviewer that her biggest dream is to play Jane Bond, the female version of James Bond. "I think it's going to be me." the actress said, "Of course, I have to be the next one, I have the training" she joked.

This isn't the first time discussion of a female reinterpretation of James Bond has occurred, with EON producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson revealing there's no reason the next Bond couldn't be a woman or a person color. Both fans and fellow actors alike have fallen on either side of this for varying reasons over the years.

Some take issue thinking that the character should remain forever a straight white male and that women should have their own original characters, while others are more open to continued variation in their 007 considering how very different the books and films have been.

Realistically the chances of a woman being Bond following Daniel Craig are slim however and with Baccarin not even being a member of the British Commonwealth, something of a prerequisite for casting, the chances of her being the one to make this milestone are even more unlikely.

What do you think? Would you like to see a female James Bond for a film or two? Do you think Baccarin is the one to fill those shoes? Leave your thoughts below.

Making James Bond a woman just for the sake of it is not empowerment, much more the opposite. You want actual empowerment? Create an original film surrounding a badass female super spy character ala Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde. Hell, Chsrlize Theron in Mad Max proved that yku don't need to hijack a male role for the female character to stand out.
Making James Bond female needlessly is like making Superman, as in Clark Kent, a woman. What is the point of that?

I'd watch. Just for the triggering of insecure boys.

@Theiveslikeus - There's nothing to be trigerred by. Hijacking a male role and calling it female empowerment is a disgrace to female empowerment.
The same way that hijacking a female role and calling it male empowerment is stupid and pointless.

@Theiveslikeus - Nothing triggered about stewarding cultural icons with a bit of integrity and dignity. Believe it or not, some people actually enjoy standing up for what's right.

Besides, with all the effort to compel speech to address people with any number of preferred (and imagined) pronouns and identities, one would think it would be a better use of energy simply to do the right artistic thing and create original content.

But then again, that takes intelligence and hard work. Infer as you will.

@Theiveslikeus - lol me too. Why not? I think it would be fun. I'm also for a totally new character. Like Ferguson in the recent and upcoming Mission Impossible movies. She was awesome

another 00 agent that can give Bond a run for his money.

She's right to be hungry and to say she wants to play a lot of different roles. I'd rather have an actress who enjoys having fun shooting a CBM, and wants to do more, than one who thinks she's too good for the genre or would only consider one role. Good for her. She really looks like a nice person.

This could actually be cool if we go into the theory James Bond is a code name.

If Skyfall didn't ruin the theory about James Bond being a codename, I'd be totally down for a female bond played by Morena. Of course it would have to be for the right reason. Doing so just to say, "hey look we're all about female empowerment" is the wrong way. If they had a story that would work great for particularly a female bond and wanted to pursue it, that would be great. Again though, if Bond is not a codename, then this would be a classic gender bender, which I tend to not he down for, unless it's just for fun and not [bullshit empowerment excuse]. They could reboot it, where Bond is a codename, and that would be interesting.

Basically I'm down for this, so long as there is no other [frick]ery attached.

The real life Mrs. Bond said it best. "No". That is what Rachel Weisz said when asked if there should be a female James Bond. She said the character was written with a man in mind. She also said if they really want a female spy movie then write one with a different character. I agree with her. Besides she is hot. She has been in a comic book movie already but I think she would do really good in a Marvel movie.

Eh.
Give me the Tarantino 1960s era set in Black and White Bond film.

Bond pounding the dry Martinees, smoking to much and averaging 2-3 women in the bedroom that he doesn’t really care about outside of their sex appeal.

I absolutely love Morena, but no.

Should've been Maria Hill though.

@BritishMonkey - Ha ha, I wrote exactly that, but deleted it thinking "Meh, no one will care, I'll get asked why, have to explain who Maria Hill really is in the comics compared to who she is the MCU and all that, explain that Maria is latina, not Canadian, then the short hair, the personality, and all that…"

Baccarin would have been a great fit. Maria being, well, nobody, really, might be my biggest regret with the MCU. She's actually a great character.

@Asturgis - Except you're right lol
I mean Colbie isn't terrible as Maria but she is very bland. Morena would've added more personality to her and also the fact that she's racially accurate too. That's one gripe I've always had with her.

@BritishMonkey - Not enough latinas in Hollywood, man, they had to go with the Canadian girl who's done one TV show her entire career :)

Not a fan of hers really, so I don't like this. I think there are better options out there if they actually did this.

@Menks123 - Firefly?

@kakinurmawth - ehhh, I think that was my favorite role of hers. I just don't like her as an actress as much as others do.

Not saying she is awful or anything! Just think there would be better choices here.
