As most of us already know, the airplane scene that takes place in the Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation trailers was shot with Tom Cruise holding on to an airplane was 100% real. If you thought that was amazing then what I tell you next shouldn't be much of a shocker. Tom Cruise recent talked with USA Today and reveal that he had to train a lot for the underwater scenes shown in the new Mission Impossible trailer. Now an average person can hold their breathe underwater for about 1-2 minutes without oxygen but in order for Tom Cruise to do the underwater scene with minimum cuts he trained to hold his breathe for more than 6 minutes underwater! If you have forgotten that particualr scene here's the last trailer for Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation:
Tom Cruise had this to say about that particular stunt:
"It's something I have always wanted to do. (Director Christopher McQuarrie) and I have been thinking about it since working on 'Edge of Tomorrow.' I have done a lot of underwater sequences. But we wanted to creat a suspense underwater sequence without cuts. So doing that sequence was really interesting. We're underwater and we're doing breath-holds of 6 to 6 1/2 minutes. So I was doing all my trainig with the other stuff (On-set). It was very taxing stuff."
Rebecca Ferguson, newcomer to the franchise, also had this to say about the stunt work:
"When you are with Tom and the 'Mission' team, the best people are brought in to train you. So you are actually capable of managing everything. It's incredible to know you have the ability to do these things."
What do you think about this? Did Tom Cruise really holds his breathe for that long? Its not outside the realm of possiblity. After all the world record for holding your breathe underwater is about 20+ minutes so its not impossible for sure. Be sure to tell me what you think about this down below in the comment section!
The fifth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, Rogue Nation will star Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and newcomers Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust and Alec Baldwin as the Head of the CIA. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, and is set to hit theatres on July 31 this summer.
