Henry Cavill And Alex Baldwin Could Return In Upcoming MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE Sequels

They may have been killed off in Mission: Impossible - Fallout but a new report from a reliable source claims that both Alec Balwin and Henry Cavill's characters could return down the line. Take a look!

In Mission: Impossible - Fallout, IMF Secretary Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin) was taken out by the villainous Agent Walker (Henry Cavill) but he ultimately got what he deserved once he was taken out by a helicopter hook to the face. Despite that, a new story from THR claims that both actors could return in Christopher McQuarrie's recently announced seventh and eighth movies.

It's said that the director could utilise them in flashbacks which would definitely make sense as McQuarrie continues telling one huge story which started in Rogue Nation. Both Baldwin and Cavill's characters could easily factor into past events if handled the right way.

On the other hand, it would be very cool to see a horribly scarred Walker return to plague Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt. That would be a little (well, very) far-fetched, of course, especially as his death was pretty definitive and horribly brutal. What do you guys think? As always, share your thoughts in the comments section below and stay tuned for further details on this as and when we have them.

@ScarletWarlock - I know they said flashbacks, but why damn it? Baldwin completely phoned it in with the last movie.

I really hope they keep bringin character back from older entries. Really adds to the continuity of the franchise. Personally I hope Maggie Q's character returns as an Apostle/Syndicate member and Thandie Newton's character to add some tension with Rebecca Ferguson's character.

Also, Cavill returning as a heavily scarred foe wouldn't surprise me either

Interesting. Not sure they need to return I Flashbacks but if it is crucial for 5he story, then I trust McQuarrie 100%.

I... was actually not necessarily totally bowled over when we got this news the other day. mind you, I'm a giant M:I fan (I've even watched a fair bit of the original TV series) and I've loved what McQ's done with them, but given we've just already come off two this recently, I kinda feel like maybe I just want to see him (and I guess Cruise) do something a little different for now. especially they're gonna shoot TWO more back to back? oye.

I didn't expect Cavill to take over Cruise in the franchise, just to at least stick around for another movie or two. But, as soon as his face got Two-Faced, I already knew he def wasn't coming back...

... because no studio is going to spend any more money on putting things on Cavill's face.

oh guys, speaking of the M:I franchise, look what cool trivia I found out last week.

On the day the 2 film news broke, I tweeted at McQuarrie saying congrats, but I also included Brad Bird, talking about how much I loved Cruise's "No shit!" line in Rogue Nation.
---------
(This below was Brad Bird's response to me):

Tom improvised that line (“NO SHIT!”) offscreen when we were filming Renner saying his line (“Your line’s not long enough!”). I laughed out loud and said “That’s great! That’s going in the film!” and we refilmed Tom’s shot, with the line this time.

(This was my original tweet to all them below, I just cut out my twitter handle):

Congrats on this big news, @chrismcquarrie u deserve it. Now, I realize this was from a @BradBirdA113 directed film, but i think @TomCruise 's delivery of "NO SHIT!!" (response to @Renner4Real's "the rope's not long enough!")is in the top 5 all time of film

I loved the shit out of Fallout and Cavill was great in it(Though in some moments he felt a bit out of it...probably those Justice League reshoots exhausted my boy) but otherwise I am glad he is back even for flashbacks.

PS

Considering that his time as Superman is gone...I fully endorse the campaign of Henry Cavill as James Bond

@Nicklander - The Man From U.N.C.L.E. showed rather fantastically that Cavill would make a great Bond.

@MosquitoFarmer - Considering that Bond producers always have talks with actors even if the part is taken I think they have had some talks with Cavill.

Plus if he gets to be Bond then he can do smaller films in order to branch out a bit

@Nicklander - I'm kinda on the fence about Henry as Bond. Sometimes I watch him on screen and go "yep, he'd do fine as Bond" but I sometimes feel like his charm feels a little forced. Whoever plays Bond needs to have natural charm and charisma while still being cold and calculated. He was good in The Man From U.N.C.L.E but he was playing kind of a caricature 60's version of Bond, everything was slightly overdone on purpose.

Even though he said he'd never take the part I still see Michael Fassbender as being the ideal replacement for Daniel Craig. He's got the charm and he can do cold and dangerous all with ease. Plus, he looks very close to Ian Fleming's original sketch of how he wanted Bond to look.

@bcom - I love Fassbender but the man is 41 and by the time they get rolling the new movie he will be 43 at best...Bond producers will always go for an actor that could play the part for a decade.

I pick Cavill cause dude might be 35 or 36 by the time a new movie comes I try to be realistic and I believe under the right direction he would kick ass

End of the day whoever gets to be 007 I will be there opening night....no actor has ever failed the 007 fanbase

@Nicklander - Very true my man! They do need an actor young enough to fill the role for a number of years. Apparently they look for actors in their mid to late 30's. I believe Daniel Craig was 37 when he first played Bond.

Fassbender is older but still very physically active but you're right, by the time the next new Bond roles around it would be at least 5 years from now and he's be in his mid 40's. Cavil would probably be in the right age bracket by then.

Would be dumb. They're dead. Let them stay dead.
CaptCoulson
CaptCoulson - 1/19/2019, 2:51 PM
@BlackBeltJones - well they're not talking about trying to stick a Groucho mask on Alec Baldwin and say it's an evil twin brother or anything, there's well within reason it can be done totally legitimately. like they said, probably at least a flashback, and since McQuarrie is approaching this with telling a much more long term story in mind, I feel like it makes sense enough and he's certainly earned my benefit of the doubt.

I want to see Benicio as a villian in these films. Someone who can go toe to toe with Cruise charisma and screen presence wise.
