The A-Team's Joe Carnahan Hates On Nikki Finke!

The A-Team's Director Strikes back on the critic that was able to push his buttons the most. WARNING: Adult Language!

The A-Team flopped. It only generated 25 million dollars losing against Jaden Smith who has now become the newest Karate Kid. Two redone 80's franchises that squared off went the way of the kids (Which should answer the "Why do they always make movies directed only towards kids" question, because of money that’s why!).

Only to make matters worse the director of The A-Team, Joe Carnahan, decided to take his frustrations out on Deadline Hollywood’s very own Nikki Finke. Below is his rant:

"She's an idiot. You've got this fu#$in' moron who, I believe, her influence doesn't stretch west of Bundy. I just think this town... But 99.999% of people outside of Hollywood have no fu$#in' idea who she is, or will miss her when she's gone. She's someone I really want to see, she's got to, go down in flames. I just think she's a miserable... That's someone who's antithetical to every good thing about this business, Nikki Finke. That's why I don't engage. I think she's a putz. I can just see her surrounded by like 47 cats and, yes, she hasn't been laid in about 17 years. And that's fine. It's unfortunate that she knows nothing and she just spits out venom and expects people to kind of circle the wagons. I swear to god the sun will set on her sooner rather than later, guaranteed. People like that don't make it."

Weew, that’s pretty strong words for someone you really don’t know. At first glance one would think that Nikki and Joe had been giving each other the Dutch Rudder for quite awhile now. But no. This is backlash from a failed weekend at the box office and as a result Joe lost his mind and took his frustrations out on someone who wrote up a review detailing why she thought The A-Team bombed. Click on the jump for Nikki's opinion.

The A-Team lost to one thing in particular and that was The Karate Kid. Any movie that is directed towards kids or can draw parents and kids combined will beat out a movie that is directed only towards the adults. That’s just the way it is. Could The A-Team have been better? Yes, off course but what movie out there could be better? If you guessed all of them then you would be the winner!

Joe it’s just the nature of the beast, your movie was entertaining but you released it the wrong weekend. Leave your drama for your mama! Nuff said.

When are these directors going to realize that raging against a critic that gives your movie a bad review is probably the worst possible thing you could do. Especially when your movie was mediocre at best, and the review wasn't even that scathing! What a tool.

I find it best to go and see the movie and judge myself if its good or bad, don't ever listen to critics or their reviews. End of the day everyone has different tastes... What ones mans gold is another mans sh1t lol! : P

Cool article dude, A-TEAM's a great movie!!

I agree with @LEEE the movie is good and
" One man's gold is another mans sh1t " However I think The A team will get more money than expected.

This guy is such an idiot. The A-Team was a great no-brainer, over-the-top action flick that was getting bad reviews by the high-brow critics but good reviews by those who can appreciate a good time. By making a statement like this, he's bringing everyone's attention to a bad review and in turn losing a bunch of viewers. "There's no such thing as bad press" doesn't work in this instance. Controversy over a movie's content draws a crowd. Controversy over good/bad usually makes people wait for a rental.

Seriously though, check out the review, it isn't even that bad. It just brings the films failings to light, where many reviewers would have glossed over them because it was "fun" and "popcorn". She does have a couple of digs t how many writers it took to squat out the script, but whatever. I'm sure there must be worse reviews that he could aim his anger at!

@Superdog & Ror- Yeah, I don't care if A-Team was amazing. That's just not professional. I don't think he'll be doing much more beyond straight to DVD.

This guy comes off as incredibly immature. Yeah, I know, criticism sucks. Especially when you feel the critic was an idiot. The fact that he feels this way isn't bad, and is certainly understandable. But when he starts screaming this stuff online it just lacks professionalism.

I was a big fan of the tv show back in the day so I went and saw the movie last night. I thought the actors and performances were spot on, the story played well to the original plot lines. And the scene after the credits with the original Face and Murdoch was cool. So all in all I liked it, it's definately worth seeing if you like a good ole action movie with some great lines and predictable but good story. So F the cat lady.

What's a Dutch Rudder? Anyway, I thought the A-Team was fantastic, but parents are going to take their kids to see a kid, not a bunch of grown men blowing shit up and killing each other. He's gotta understand that. Just because it didn't make a shitload opening weekend doesn't mean it's a bomb. It could still make its money back and then some.

who the [frick] is nikki finke? Joe is just getting mad about her being a bitch about his film (that was [frick]ing awesome, by the way) you know he is proberaly right about most of that.

It's not just about it being a kid's movie. Karate Kid got better ratings at Metacritic, and I think people just have more interest in Karate Kid especially after other team movies like Tropic Thunder and GI Joe.

I haven't seen either movies, but based on the 80s versions, I would rather see Karate Kid.

ha this was on her bio : Out West, where movies, moguls, and millions are made, Nikki Finke is the sheriff in town. From her perch as the L.A. Weekly "Deadline Hollywood" columnist and queen of DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com, she has been going after the juicy business dramas of film moguls and agents,

she sounds like she has her head waaaay too far up her ass

She does, she is actually a bit of a tool by all accounts. Doesn't make this dude any leas of a one with this cry baby shit though. I guess I sympathize with Finke because I also disliked the film and think she made a lot of good points in her review.

karate kid sucked...the original is way much better and accurate -- karate is an art from japan!! where is this new movie set!? who's the kid's master?? what's he teaching the kid?? they're in china, the master's jackie chan(chinese dude who doesn't even know mr. miyagi in real life), he's teaching kung fu!! the writer's got his mind sideways...

flames809 - 6/17/2010, 3:38 PM
saw the karate kids it was good. in my opinion it was better than the old karate kid

bobfet- idk wat u tlking about but the movie was great and fighting scene were great to
bobofet
bobofet - 6/17/2010, 3:48 PM
what i'm saying is it should be called kung fu kid instead of karate kid because he's teaching him kung fu and not karate -- you don't want to see a movie called american something but the movie is about a culture of a different caucasian nation or something...it's just insulting putting us chinese, japanese, koreans into one mixing pot hehehe...

Just do what I do, Cal it the Kung Fu Kid everytime you mention it to in conversation. It looks good, and really, who can honestly say A-Team has a larger following than Karate Kid. Family fun vs. explosions and death aside (though it is a valid point) no one should have expected A-Team to do as well. This guy is being an ass hat. What a great post release marketing strategy. Act like a complete asshole about a single review and blame all your woes on some stuck up CRITIC. Did he forget that's essentially the job of movie critics? If he wanted better turnout, he should've gotten MR. T. Not even a cameo I hear.

I'm still going to see both and probably enjoy them thoroughly.

@ADGokou1983;
Mr. T was offered a cameo, but turned it down.

Who actually cares? Carnahan got a bit of anger out by ranting about someone who I've never heard of. To me, Joe can say whatever he wants, I'm still going to love the majority of work that he does. He's yet to direct a movie that I don't like. Loved the A-Team, Narc, Smokin' Aces, and Blood, Guts, Bullets and Octane.

And if anything this Nikki chick will receive a bit of popularity boost, seeing as how I've never heard of her before in my life until now... She should reply with a simple, "thank you".

yup -- i've seen it..i mean, i don't mean to bash on it or anything..well maybe i already did, but i'm sorry about that. i have to admit, the fight scenes are better, but, i'm more of a purist hahaha..so i like the classic one more than this...and yeah, i think karate kid has more fan base than a-team so do the math..maybe a-team is a flop in the opening weekend, but let's see in the following weeks, i haven't seen it tho.

I can see why he's frustrated. The A-team lost to a kiddie movie, end of story. A-Team was still an awesome flick. I loved it and my fiancee surprisingly liked it too. I think if more people went and watched it they would like it.

As for the The Karate Kid, my little sisters really wanted to see it so I took them. I didn't realize it was almost a direct remake, only it was a little kid and he was in china. A LOT of the lines were taken verbatum from the original. Anywho, it was weak, Jackie Chan was the only enjoyable part and I thought Jayden Smith was actully the weakest part. I almost even fell asleep too.

Oh, come on, Joe. Just let it all out. No need to sugarcoat it. We're all adults here.

The A-Team just arrived into my town and I plan to see it tonight. I don't care what people say when I want to watch my childhood heroes from TV.

I've never heard of Nikki Finke. But, yes, as some have stated already, going off on critics is not the way to go. Especially if your movie was beat by Will Smith's disingenuous kid in a garbage re-make (poor Jackie Chan).

Kevin Smith is a good example of how that can tarnish your image.
