Variety report that Wiklenson is in early talks to join Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer in Gore Verbinski's Lone Ranger flick.

The thesp would portray a railroad tycoon in the Old West who plays a prominent role in the Mouse House's bigscreen pair-up of Armie Hammer, as the masked Texas Ranger, and his trusty sidekick, Tonto, to be played by Johnny Depp.

Now variety don't say, but from that description it sounds to me like he is up for a villainous role. You don't see many nice Tycoons in these type of movies! Still, just my guess. Wilkinson is a veteran of many great roles, but is best known to CBM fans for playing Carmine Falcone in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins

Gore Verbinski will direct the movie which is set to shoot this fall, and hit theaters Dec. 21, 2012.

You overestimate the simplicity of your MULTIPLE accents.

That being said, I've noticed a lot of tallented British actors with Wilkinson's accent (which ever British accent that is) have trouble with the general American accent (eg: Ray Winstone). Must be their Kryptonite.

I think Tom Wilkinson did a pretty good east coast accent in Batman Begins. I've heard a lot worse in other films.

It would be funny if he played the Lone Ranger's dad. Since he played the dad of the Green Hornet and they are related. The Lone Ranger was the great uncle of the original Green Hornet.

Now, you think, because your mommy and your daddy got shot, you know the ugly side of life, but you don’t. You’ve never tasted desperate. You’re … you’re Bruce Wayne, The Prince of Gotham. You’d have to go a thousand miles to meet someone who didn’t know your name. So don’t come down here with your anger, trying to prove something to yourself. This is a world you’ll never understand. And you always fear … what you don’t understand.

I like him. Its interesting that in Batman Begins, he played one of the guys responsible for the city's corruption, and in Green Hornet, he played a guy who devoted his life to fighting corruption.

@NeoBaggins
Cool, Falcone's best quote.

Why is he called the Lone Ranger when he has a sidekick?

@kingmonkeyman Uh because Tonto is not a Texas Ranger. Here is his origin: Six Texas Rangers are ambushed by a band of outlaws led by Cavendish. Later, a Native American named Tonto stumbles on the scene and recognizes the lone survivor, Reid, as the man who had saved his life some time in the past. He nurses Reid back to health. The two men dig six graves for Reid's comrades, among them Reid's brother, and Reid fashions a black mask using material from his brother's vest to conceal his identity, so that Cavendish will think there were no survivors. Even after the Cavendish gang is brought to justice, Reid continues to fight evil under the guise of the Lone Ranger.

The Lone Ranger, Wild Wild West, and Have Gun–Will Travel were my favorite old western T.V. shows when I was a kid. I wish someone would make a Have Gun–Will Travel remake movie too. Although the Wild Wild West movie they did was crap and so was the 80's Lone Ranger movie.
