Sorry Comic Book Movie fans!!! Recent Comic Book Movies got snuffed, but 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' grabbed the number one spot!!!

Moviefone recently ran a survey to find out what their peeps thought were some of the best action flicks ever. Not making the list are 'The Dark Knight', or Spider-Man 2.' Which makes no sense. Those two at least deserve an honorable mention. Never the less, below is the list.

1. Raiders of the Lost Ark

2. The Matrix

3. Die Hard

4. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

5. Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back

6. Terminator 2

7. Speed

8. Aliens

9. Kill Bill: Vol. 1

Can never get why KILL BILL is so loved, it was good but not fantastic, same will BOURNE too!

love all of the movies on the list except Speed, never got the attraction with that..2 shite actors on a [frick]ing bus. Ah no, bit harsh, I did think it was decent at the time.

Lee, Kill Bill is a [frick]ing masterpiece.

Kung Fu Hustle was class, forgot about that. With lists as broad as these everyone will be able to think of better/worse, but I have to say its difficult to argue with most of these. I mean I'd put Serenity on there! But then, what defines that(Or many on the list) as action and not sci-fi? Mmm. Maybe "action movies" should limit itself to stuff like Speed, Die hard, Lethal Weapon..

In a survey like this, general population is not going to think of a CBM when you say action movies. They generally get classed into sci fi or fantasy. LOTR & Star Wars will be thought of before a CBM (until Avengers comes out, here's hoping). Speed is a good movie but not top 10. As far as other non CBM's I'd have to throw in either:

Gladiator
The Great Escape (a little bit older but one of my all time faves)

I know there has to be a cut off, but there is no way that "The Road Warrior" shouldn't be up there on that list.

For anyone that hasn't seen it, the last 10-15 minutes of "The Kingdom" is absolutley incredible action sequences.

I paid for the whole seat, but only needed the edge !

@MPP-I see what you are saying. These genres get blurred all the time. Heck, another great Army of Darkness falls into almost every one of those categories.

Another great action/drama fave of mine is Force 10 from Navarone. Guns of Navarone is great as well.

How in the flippin' world could they even put Speed in the same category as the other movies? That....is a shock. Just about every Bond flick made was a better action flick than Speed. There are better Segal and Jackie Chan movies than Speed, and that says a lot. Speed shouldn't be in the top 30 or 40.

This is a fair list, and one of the best "top 10" lists I've seen. These lists usually have at least one really stupid entry, but this one does not. I can't argue with any of the choices there. I might nitpick with the order of the films, but only as a matter of personal preference (Terminator 2 is still in my all-time top 5, but I can't see what I'd move to put it there). Every one of those films is a classic. Well done, Moviefone! The only film that could merit argument might be Speed, but if you look at the dramatic tension in the story, the battle between protagonist/antagonist, and the cleverness of the concept of the film, I can see it earning a spot on this list.

As for superhero films being on here, to me, traditional "action" movies and superhero movies are two related, but very different, genres. Superhero films really should be in a list all to themselves.

MULTI @ I didn't say it should be top, but it should be in there (like TDK), and [frick]ing STAR WARS should be top or near it, how can some of them movies up there beat that??!!

Oh yeah...."BLIND FURY"....with Rutger hauer....a blind guy who one minute is a helpless retard and the next is slicing and dicing people up with surgical presicion.

And let's not forget about BLOOD SPORT....gets dust thrown in his eyes, can't see, has a 3 second flashback, begins to execute figure eight aerial kicks with pin point accuracy, and gayishly moaning the whole time.....it doesn't get any better!

I agree!!! Speed??? Did you see the jump scene???? Like a frikin' Duke's of Hazard jump! Crap on a cracker! Empire needs to be higher and I really don't see how the Bourne movie even rate. Good enough...but top 10? No.
