Animation is sure having a great year at the box office!
Finding Dory now stands at a current worldwide box office gross of
$897.4 million, surpassing
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in the process. Worldwide, the critically-acclaimed Pixar film is now the fourth biggest movie of 2016 just after
Captain America: Civil War,
Zootopia, and
The Jungle Book (all of which are Disney films). The
Finding Nemo sequel has a current domestic gross of
$476.8 million, making it the seventh highest grossing film at the domestic box office and the highest grossing film of 2016 domestically.
Finding Dory is expected to reach $1 billion soon.
Moving on to Illumination Animation,
The Secret Life of Pets made another $8.84 million this weekend, which gives it an overall domestic cume of
$335.9 million. This makes it the sixth highest grossing film of 2016 domestically, surpassing
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's $330.3 million. At its current rate, the animated flick could even reach
Deadpool domestic numbers ($363.1 million) according to box office experts. Worldwide,
The Secret Life of Pets closes in on $600 million and could make up to $900 million. It would appear that animated and family movies are ruling this year at the box office.
