The Hollywood Reporter reports that Justin Lin, director of Fast Five and the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, is set to direct Space Jam 2, the sequel to 1996 cult hit, Space Jam, with Cleveland Cavaliers player, LeBron James set to star along side the animated Looney Tunes characters. They have also reported who the writers of the project will be.
"Lin, Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello are writing the script for the basketball sequel which will star the NBA player", The Hollywood Reporter reports. Andrew Dodge is best known for writing the 2014 black comedy, Bad Words, while Botello was a consultant on Lin's upcoming Star Trek film.
However, all this begs the question: Is this true? There have been reports of a sequel to Space Jam for a while, which have been proven to be false. However, this does seem like it could be true with the announcement of a director and writers. However, will this sequel see the light of day? I would assume WB would be a bit hesitant on getting the film made, seeing as the last theatrical Looney Tunes film, Back In Action, was a box office failure.
So, seeing as previous Space Jam 2 reports have been proven false, do you think this a true? And if you do, is this a good idea or a cynical attempt to cash in on nostalgia? Comment below.
