And here's the longer Japanese trailer.

The Wind Rises (風立ちぬ Kaze Tachinu) is a 2013 Japanese animated historical fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki.[2] The film is based on the manga of the same name, which is in turn based on a short story by Tatsuo Hori, a writer, poet and translator from mid-20th century (Showa period) Japan. Kaze Tachinu is a fictionalised biography of Jiro Horikoshi, designer of the Mitsubishi A5M (featured in the movie) and its famous successor, the Mitsubishi A6M Zero. Both were fighter aircraft that the Empire of Japan used in World War II.

The Wind Rises gets a limited release in the US starting February 21st, 2014, expanding a week after, in addition to the awards qualifying run in New York and Los Angeles from November 8th-14th.

This should be a really good film. Plus the best part is Disney has no say in the Studio Ghibli films anymore. I hope that the new company will find better voice actors and advertise these films more then Disney did.

fettastic - you (and your boy) should try to watch THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO. The artwork for a rushed production with TV-level animation obviously isn't up to snuff with the Miyazaki standards later on, but gosh what a fun, buoyant boys-out adventure film. (I can't remember but I seem to remember Spielberg being a fan and you can sorta see why.)

I mean that one scene which always gets me is our hero Lupin III is cornered, defiant to the bad guys to the end, they drop him in what appears to be a deathtrap of pikes and then...well, what happens always makes me want to punch the air.

Oh my god... This is Hayao Miyazakis last film. I think I might cry. This guys films were my freaking childhood, Porco Rosso, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Castle in The Sky.

It is truly a sad day in animation. Oh well hopefully he is just retiring from directing and handling the running of Studio Ghibli. I will for sure be watching this and dealing with the rush of emotions Hayao produces with his spectacular imagery.
