Following a recent report that Marvel Studios might be "discussing options" after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors was arrested for an alleged assault, a new rumor doing the rounds indicates that Kevin Feige and co. may already have an actor - or at least, a certain "type" of actor - in mind should they decide to bring in a replacement as Kang.
Majors was taken into police custody after supposedly physically assaulting a woman in her 30s (believed to be his girlfriend) in a New York City apartment. The actor's lawyer claimed that her client was "completely innocent, and "probably the victim," promising to present evidence that would clear him of any criminal wrongdoing.
However, said evidence - a series of texts from the alleged victim - did not have the desired effect, and actually made Majors come out looking even worse.
If the woman (who has not been named) doesn't press charges, Majors will likely walk, but that may not prevent Disney/Marvel from taking action in an effort to avoid the backlash of keeping Majors on in the role.
During this week's episode of The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider offered the following update.
"Even though there hasn’t been any movement on the Jonathan Majors front, I’ve heard that’s the kind of actor, who, if Jonathan Majors got the boot as Kang, someone like Damson Idris is the type of the person that [Marvel] may look at to replace him if that, in fact, happens.”
Idris is an up-and-coming British actor from FX's Snowfall, who has also appeared in the likes of Swarm and Outside the Wire. He was recently cast alongside Brad Pitt in Apple's untitled Forumla-1 movie.
This doesn't mean Idris is going to replace Majors as Kang or is even in the running to do so, but if the studio is considering other actors for the role, it could suggest that they are planning to make the change.
