BOX OFFICE: ANT-MAN Towers Over PIXELS As It Passes $100 Million In North America

Last weekend, the majority of headlines about Ant-Man focused on the fact that the movie had the second lowest Marvel opening behind only The Incredible Hulk. Well, the big story this weekend is that the movie has crushed the competition to stay at #! Read on for details...

As we first told you yesterday, Ant-Man has remained at the #1 spot this weekend with a haul of $24.8 million. Pixels was expected to far exceed that number, but poor reviews and negative buzz seem to have halted its momentum as it earned a disappointing $24 million. You could say that Ant-Man got lucky, but the Marvel movie faced stiff competition both last weekend and this weekend, so it's pretty damn impressive that it's done this well. Being at #1 for two weeks is definitely going to increase the chances of a sequel, as will the fact that it has now passed $100 million after just ten days of release in North America. With an additional $60 million from overseas, it now has a worldwide cume of $226 million. That's a good return for a movie which cost only $130 million, and it still has some time to go before leaving theaters, so stay tuned to CBM for further updates!

Yeah, everyone's talking about Papertowns and Pixels... Where's Southpaw, man?! Movie looks damn good and they've had quite the promo advertising for it. Rated 'R' or not, I figured it'd be the talk of the town for this weekend. Anyways, props to Ant Man, it is extremely well deserved.

Another win for Marvel. Happy Pixels is underperforming. People are starting to catch on to Sandler's schtick.

Okay first of all, any idiots saying a comic book movie is going to flop in the time we're living in needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Still though... beating Pixels is nothing special.

Unbelievable. Marvel took a crappy character and made him amazing on the big screen.

Iove the concept of the movie Pixels, but then they went and made it an Adam Sandler and Kevin James movie.

When I look at the upcoming movies in phase 3
It looks like all of them will stay at number 1 a
Minimum of 2-3 weeks.

Ant-Man didn't cost just $130 million. It was in pre production for 10 years. Marvel had to pay for that as well. It's promo budget would be around $200 million.
