BOX OFFICE: Marvel's ANT-MAN Closing In On An Impressive $300 Million Worldwide

Ant-Man overperformed one again this weekend in its third week of release, beating Minions to the #3 spot despite predictions to the contrary. Hit the jump for details on that and all the latest news on how Marvel's final "Phase 2" movie is doing both domestically and overseas...

Despite the fact that some fans have argued that Ant-Man would be Marvel's first flop, they've very much been proved wrong over the past few weeks. This weekend, it earned an estimated $12.6 million, a figure which puts it at #3 behind new releases Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation and Vacation. It was thought that Minions (which has taken a big chunk out of its box office haul) would beat it, but Ant-Man has remained in front. Its current domestic total stands at $132.15 million.

Overseas it has earned $159.5 million, giving it a global total of $291.648 million. That means it's just a day or two away from $300 million, and seeing as it only cost $130 million to make, Marvel surely have to be considering giving the character a sequel. Ant-Man still hasn't opened in a number of key territories, including China and Japan. What do you guys think? Sound off below...

@0megaDaGr0dd

You do realize with Batman Begins, it came out after Batman & Robin plus it came out a month later after the suppose final Star Wars movie?

Not like it got a lot of advantages.

May i call it a shit movie? I mean that would be rude but thats my opinion right, but again i gotta keep my opinion up my ass right? but this movie is shit, doesn't belongs to my taste. people have loved it and also hated it and being a person who didn't liked it i would say this movie felt forced and really very obvious and easy to be anticipated at times. My 8 year old daughter did liked it, then again it was a Disney afterall.

Deserves every penny! Feel bad I saw it without paying anything. Might see it again just to support it.

First off not dissing Ant-Man it's easily my second favorite phase 2 movie. But it's not fair to compare it's numbers to those older movies. This movie really benefited from all those extra IMAX 3D dollars opening weekend. For some people that is the only way they view blockbuster movies even if it's average.

@arseven1974

Your 8-year old daughter clearly has better taste in film than you; I'm guessing she expresses herself more clearly as well.

The weakest link of this movie was Paul Rudd's performance. I felt like the role was intended for someone like Simon Pegg, dry British humor would have been great with the script.

It's not going to be a huge hit, but it's a solid success... As noted, it's likely going to out-earn the likes of "X-men: First Class" ($353m worldwide on a $30m higher budget) and others. It has already passed "the Incredible Hulk", and has a solid shot of out-earning the first Cap ($370m worldwide).

Domestically, tomorrow it's likely going to pass both Hulk films, as well as "The Wolverine".

Most of the jokes at the beginning were flat. The falcon scene and the ending saved the movie. Marvel also needs to get Evangeline Lilly a better wig LOLOL.

Fun movie, that I enjoyed but it does not need a sequel. I'd rather Marvel/Disney put their resources into other projects.
