Evangeline Lilly Denies ANT-MAN Rumors; Shares Thoughts On Edgar Wright's Departure
The Hobbit star Evangeline Lilly denies any knowledge about the rumour that she'll be in Ant-Man, but plays coy when asked about her Comic-Con plans and has plenty to say about the recent news that Marvel Studios and Edgar Wright had parted ways over the project. Yeah, she's in the movie!
Talking to SlashFilm recently, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Lost star Evangeline Lilly was asked whether she could comment on the constant reports that she'll be playing The Wasp in Edgar Wright's Peyton Reed's Ant-Man. Her response wasn't what many of us wanted to hear though! "No, I can’t," she bluntly replied. "I don’t know anything about those rumors." The trades recently confirmed that Lilly IS in the movie, so perhaps this denial has something to do with the fact that the Ant-Man cast will all be brought on stage at Comic-Con this weekend. That's a theory the site put to her, and when the Real Steel actress was asked whether she has more planned than just panels for The Hobbit and The Squickerwonkers, she said: "I’m an actress, but I’m not stupid. I can’t answer that question."
However, for someone in the movie, she sure does have an interesting opinion on the recent split between Marvel Studios and Edgar Wright! "Well I read the news and have followed the storylines of what’s been going on with Ant-Man. And I think that it’s always a tragedy when somebody works for six years on a passion project and then for, you know, whatever reason ends up distancing themselves from the project. But I think that ultimately when there’s a massive collaboration happening with artistic people or anything that isn’t film work is really a piece of art at the end of the day. That everybody wants to serve the story. Everybody wants to serve the art. And whatever it takes to make the best film is what needs to happen. So, I mean, I can think as somebody in the industry who’s watched the headlines and sort of kept abreast of the news that it is a tragedy. But hopefully it’s a tragedy that will serve the story." So, yeah, it seems like a safe bet to say that the actress is indeed part of the cast. The question now is, who will she be playing? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!
