Evangeline Lilly Denies ANT-MAN Rumors; Shares Thoughts On Edgar Wright's Departure

The Hobbit star Evangeline Lilly denies any knowledge about the rumour that she'll be in Ant-Man, but plays coy when asked about her Comic-Con plans and has plenty to say about the recent news that Marvel Studios and Edgar Wright had parted ways over the project. Yeah, she's in the movie!

Talking to SlashFilm recently, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Lost star Evangeline Lilly was asked whether she could comment on the constant reports that she'll be playing The Wasp in Edgar Wright's Peyton Reed's Ant-Man. Her response wasn't what many of us wanted to hear though! "No, I can’t," she bluntly replied. "I don’t know anything about those rumors." The trades recently confirmed that Lilly IS in the movie, so perhaps this denial has something to do with the fact that the Ant-Man cast will all be brought on stage at Comic-Con this weekend. That's a theory the site put to her, and when the Real Steel actress was asked whether she has more planned than just panels for The Hobbit and The Squickerwonkers, she said: "I’m an actress, but I’m not stupid. I can’t answer that question."

However, for someone in the movie, she sure does have an interesting opinion on the recent split between Marvel Studios and Edgar Wright! "Well I read the news and have followed the storylines of what’s been going on with Ant-Man. And I think that it’s always a tragedy when somebody works for six years on a passion project and then for, you know, whatever reason ends up distancing themselves from the project. But I think that ultimately when there’s a massive collaboration happening with artistic people or anything that isn’t film work is really a piece of art at the end of the day. That everybody wants to serve the story. Everybody wants to serve the art. And whatever it takes to make the best film is what needs to happen. So, I mean, I can think as somebody in the industry who’s watched the headlines and sort of kept abreast of the news that it is a tragedy. But hopefully it’s a tragedy that will serve the story." So, yeah, it seems like a safe bet to say that the actress is indeed part of the cast. The question now is, who will she be playing? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

Glad she's still on with the project, don't want her to play wasp though, an original character would be fine with me.

I wonder if she could play a 60s wasp with Patrick Wilson as a 60s hank Pym

I don't want Wasp in it unless young Hank is in it, which he ain't. Maybe have an older actress play a character simply named Janet and have her in it for a few minutes.

She's the only one who reasonably fits in her role.

I want her to be Wasp but not Janet. Maybe the daughter of Hank and Janet... Janet JR I guess.

She has the looks and acting chops, make her the Goddamn Wasp.

Yes, keep your head down and don't stir waters. Very smart Miss Lily. Knowing how a screw up on LOST can get your character killed has trained you well.

Janet Pym is obviously Janet Pym.

No one remembers how they reported the female lead would be playing Pym's daughter?

"Janet Pym is gonna be the daughter of Hank Pym and she's gonna have a relationship with Scott Lang I'm calling it now.."

@Inhuman, yea whoever is still denying it at this point is just setting themselves up for the eventual disappointment, and then like clockwork the fanboy rage will ensue. One would even think they're purposely staying ignorant about it so they have something bitch about this movie later.

So now because Edgar Wright wanted to make Ant Man with Lang instead of Pym, now we don't get Wasp in the MCU? That sucks!

The denial is strong with this one...Nah bro, she'll be Pym's daughter in this universe.

I agree with @Inhuman. I could see Wasp (Janet Pym) being the daughter of Hank. This story wil be so different than his actual comic origin.

I was hoping to see Pym smack Janet at least once on the big screen.

I don't want her to be the Wasp - she's far too grumpy for that role. She'd be far better suited to Spider Woman.

Yup that's what i've been saying all along. It's all about collaboration and moving forward with the story. Once the collaboration halts you're in trouble. Everybody needs to share in the artistic vision for the film.

Also just want to say Evangeline Lily is one of the most beautiful women on the planet. Stole my heart while watching Lost and damn....she can speak Elvish to me any day hahaha

@ThePowerCosmic

Yeah that's a good point. It would be wonderful to see Wasp but considering the whole MCU your theory seems pretty spot on.

Also, I've been wondering this lately...is it 'mine as well' or 'might as well'...IDK! hahaha

God I hope she is Janet.
