Marvel Apparently Wants Adam McKay To Direct One Of Their Movies; Could It Be INHUMANS?

Anchorman helmer Adam McKay has already taken a crack at the Ant-Man script alongside star Paul Rudd, but he's now being lined up to helm one of Marvel's Phase 3 movies according to a new report. Which of them is McKay being lined up for? Nothing's confirmed, but hit the jump for details...

When Marvel Studios parted ways with Edgar Wright, Adam McKay was one of the first people they turned to for Ant-Man. He chose not to direct because of the fairly tight production schedule, but did rewrite the script alongside Paul Rudd. They clearly haven't given up on him helming one of their movies though as Latino-Review reports that "Adam McKay is in the on-deck spot to direct a Marvel movie. Which Marvel movie remains hazy." They go on to theorise that it could be Inhumans that McKay tackles, and their argument makes a lot of sense. Hiring a director like James Gunn paid off in a big way for Marvel with Guardians of the Galaxy, and you can imagine McKay also being able to pull off the strange world inhabited by the likes of Black Bolt and Medusa.

It could be anyone. Inhumans is only 2019 (?). There are many others who will debut before that.

I've learned to trust Marvel when it comes to their director choices. The few issues they had (Alan Taylor and Thor 2, Jon Favreau and IM2) had more to do with studio interference, editing problems, actor injuries, and improvising a directionless script at the last second rather than the directors themselves. Though the Edgar Wright business is the one black eye that Marvel has at this point.

And before the trolls get here, this isn't an El Mayimbe scoop.

It's not like the people who direct these films actually have creative license to do anything with it. Marvel has a very specific vision (pun intended) in mind and these guys really just go through the motions.

I cannot figure out Marvel's formula for picking directors. I look at all past projects - Film/TV/Commercials, and other than Joss Whedon & James Gunn - I can't for the life of me figure out what their thought process is when considering a director and the property.

@SauronsBANE & Kurban

I completely agree with you guys. I just keep looking for some thread of consistency or SOMETHING that would help it make sense - but I got nothing!

Fantastic 4!!

Just kidding....

Maybe Spider-Man, not sure if he's the right choice for Inhumans

Uh... I'd much rather see him helm Captain Marvel or Black Panther or anything but Inhumans. Inhumans needs a script and a director that bring something... "game of Thrones"-ish to the film (not as for the medieval setting but rather because of the political intrigues in the Royal family).

Sounds fine to me, after griping in the past I've learned to just trust Marvel when it comes to picking directors.
