With Ant-Man hitting theaters July 17, Michael Douglas who plays Hank Pym in Marvel's Ant-Man, (the inventor of the Ant-Man costume) sat down with Marvel.com in a recent interview. And this interview wasn't just small talk, Douglas started by telling how his role in Ant-Man differed from his other films, and how Guardians of the Galaxy convinced him to accept his role. "My entire career, which is a lot of movies, has just been contemporary stories with no special effects, no nothing. Just psychological, real stories. This film, to me, was just excitement. This is great. I wanted to get into the Marvel world, you know? I want to taste the Kool-Aid.” He then tells how after he saw James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy in IMAX 3D, he was 100% convinced to take the role, “It was just after seeing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ in IMAX 3D, and it blew my mind. I loved it. I loved the sense of humor. I looked at the ‘Ant-Man’ script and saw the tone being set, the sense of adventure with a comedic twist."

After telling why he accepted the role, he then revealed that Ant-Man was the reason that he started to be overlay fond with ants. "Well I used to like those chocolate covered ants. I found that was a real specialty. I have a new appreciation for it. I'm fascinated by them." He then added, "I've done a little bit of homework with the different types of ants, it’s pretty cool. This is really clever how they can find this spectrum of support." He also says why he thinks a certain ant-related feature makes this movie special. "I think that’s what makes this movie special, it’s a real point of view for when Paul is the size of an ant."

Aside from ants, and Guardians of the Galaxy, Douglas talked about the character he plays in the film, and the connection he has with Darren Cross (Corey Stoll's character). "I think it goes back to the initial serum that I developed. There is a dark side to Hank,” He then elaborated, "He has a military background. He wants to make the world a better place, but in doing so, he realizes just how dark the world is." Head to Marvel.com for more!

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Evangeline Lilly, David Dastmalchian, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, Wood Harris John Slattery and Gregg Turkington with multi-hyphenate T.I., and the film opens July 17, 2015

It's amazing when you list the great veteran actors who have taken roles in the Marvel movies. Douglas, Redford, Bridges, Hopkins, and Close to name a few.

Didn't he used to say that the reason that he joined in the first place was to work with Edgar Wright?

Warner Bros.
TBA, Hall H
The studio is expected to go very big once again this year, even eclipsing its mega-screen presentation last year. Expect stars of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to take the stage along with the stars of Suicide Squad.

@dirty30m The set reports reveal Pym's past when he was younger, if you're interested.

@KurtWagner1225 Haha so true. Can't wait for s2 of Agent Carter!

@reasonnn

Or if Pym tells Stark that half his tech is from Pym. That would make for some good drama

Military background ??? Former military scientist maybe. Prob knows General Ross. My theory is that everything ties back to Cap. Banner was working on the serum and didnt know for example. I believe Pym was working on a super soldier serum variation...not so much a serum but a way to make elite soldiers like Cap and his solution was shrinking them maybe....then he realized he could only trust himself with the power.

@KurtWagner1225 Yup. You summed it up perfectly.

@sKeemAn That would be a nice wrinkle, it wasn't just Howard and Vanko.

All sounds would be abnormally loud to him. I'm guessing he would have sound dampeners in his helmet or something...

Ha, I just re-watched Guardians of the Galaxy last night...and man, what a great movie. It makes perfect sense why Michael Douglas would want to play in the MCU after seeing that, and it's endlessly amusing that people let a dance-off change their ENTIRE perception of the film. Lots of fanboys are missing out.

If Nicolas Case isn't cast as Magus, I'm seriously jumping off the Marvel hype train.

I've always found Hank Pym to be a fascinating character. Not particularly likable, but fascinating, so I'm still a little disappointed that we won't be seeing much of him in his prime. At the same time, though, Michael Douglas is a damn fine actor for Pym and he may very well steal every scene he's in.

Is it a safe assumption that Patrick Wilson was originally going to play the younger Pym? I'm not sure he could bring the same subtlety and gravity that Douglas can, but then again, that would be a younger, more naive Hank. I hope we don't get fewer flashbacks because they decided to go with CGI instead. (Plus there's basically no chance we'll get to see Douglas as a younger Pym in Agent Carter or anywhere else on TV, so that sucks.)
