More From Edgar Wright On Getting Ant-Man To Kick Ass!

The writer and director of the planned Marvel Studios movie talks about meeting with Stan Lee to discuss the characters potential, what comic run might inspire the adaptation and how cool a tiny hero kicking ass really is...

"I think it's an advantage that he's a character to maybe have a little more fun and lisence with. It's funny, I met Stan Lee in the States and he told me that Ant-Man was the one character that he came up with they never got right, himself included, that when he used to write him, they never quite nailed it even though it was the best idea."

"I remember reading Marvel Premiere in 1979 of John Byrne's Ant-Man and I really like that. I think it's a great premise as you've never seen an incredible shrinking man fil where the person who can shrink is the hero. Usually it's someone in peril. It'll be fun to see someone who can kick ass that is only this big!"

Ant-Man! Edgar Wright! There's no way this can fail! Well, maybe at the box office, but who cares about that?!

I think they'd need to include the Wasp and two very popular lead actors to make this movie a success. Edgar Wright is THE best guy for the job, but it could still be hard to get people to watch a movie called Ant-Man. I'm really looking forward to it though! They'd be foolish not to use The Avengers to establish the characters even if they arent a part of the team.

@ joshw

good work,mate.

i don't think "ant-man" is a good enough character to carry a whole movie on his own.

he should be in "the avengers" or have him team up with another character maybe "the wasp".

"the astonishing ant-man & the wonderful wasp" would work better.

Ant-Man could rock. There's a cheesy villain that would work cinematically: SWARM. Sort of a hive-intelligence. Would be a great "mankind destroying nature" story, with "hive collapse syndrome" and destruction of global ecosystems - thematically, that could tie into an Ant-Man story.

Dude I like ant-man. he is not as cheesy as some people think. if only they would do their research and see. That panel of Scott Lang and Ms Marvel is awesome. Definitely a perk to being AntMan

I agree with Stan Lee that they never got the character really right. Shrinking is a cool power but I never saw the appeal of being able to telepathically communicate with insects.
However if there is one director who can get this right it is Edgar Wright though. I don't care that Scott Pilgram didn't make its money back, the guy is fantastic.

Yeah!

I NEVER REALLY GOT ANT MAN. I RATHER GIANT MAN THAN ANT MAN. I THINK ANT AND THINK...STEP ON HIM..AND THEN WANNA SAY "OMG THAT WAS A SUPERHERO?"

Ant-Man's power isn't his main function.Like Reed Richards, Hank's main asset is his brain and his gadgets. His powers usually aid his current mission, but they aren't the basis of the story.

I could see this as a crazy sc-fi action film, with a sometimes humorous tone, where Hank and maybe Janet are going up against MODOK and AIM, and he is able to shrink and grow.Maybe he just invented Pym Particles and AIM wants it.He would use his new powers, as well as a lot of his other gadgets to defeat them.It could be a real fun movie.

@Gunsmith

If you tried he would just throw you on your backside

HE IS 4X STRONGER THEN A REGULAR MAN DUE TO HIS MASS REMAINING THE SAME WHEN SHRUNK

Well the best way to go I think is have him change between Antman/Giantman like in the avengers show. And really hank and jan should just appear in avengers film instead of their own movie.

am I the only one who thought they were trying to get the ant-man character into the 'kick-ass' movie after reading the title? lol

I just read that Universal and Eddie Murphy were involved in a re-make of the classic 50's film "The Incredible Shrinking Man."

I always thought that the original Ant-Man story had to be inspired somewhat by this movie, especially once the character in the film was smaller than insect size.

I would think that Marvel would want to get their product on silver screen before that one since they were similar stories, though of course in the film the "shrinking man" is a victim while Ant-Man is a hero.

I always envisioned that "Ant-Man" would "borrow" some of the ideas from that movie, like the epic battle with the spider in that film. That is classic scene. Love to see Hank go toe to toe with a tarantula while he is trying to figure out how to get back to normal size.

It needs to be Hank Pym. I'm going to be pretty annoyed if it isn't.

I think the film needs to revolve around both Hank and Scott equally to work well. They can be with or against each other depending on the timing and whats going on around them. I have a feeling Marvel is going to mix Scott Lang and Eric O'Gradys character/story's up to form a more solid character though.

For those that don't know, Pym's tech is stolen from him by both Lang and O'Grady (on completely separate occasions) to be used for... self gain more or less. They both end up becoming heroes in the end though.
