Screenwriter Joe Cornish Starting to Sound More Optimistic About ANT-MAN

Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright have been working on an Ant-Man script for quite awhile, and according to Joe it's now in the hands of Marvel Studios.

There is a bit of confusion here as just a little over a month ago it was reported by Hit Flix that Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright were working on a third draft. In the interview below he seems to contradict that report. Joe states that the project is now in the hands of Marvel, and they're waiting on studio's okay. Hopefully we'll hear something soon on that front, til then read the rest of his comments on Ant-Man in his interview with Matt’s Movie Reviews.

Current status of Ant-Man
It’s good! You know, we’ve been working on that for a while now. We’ve delivered a draft earlier in the year and that’s really in the hands of Edgar and Marvel as to if and when they’ll make it. But we’re pretty excited about our draft.

In a saturated market Ant-Man can stand out
He’s a pretty cool character. You know, he’s not a hugely famous Marvel character but in a way that’s kind of cool because people don’t have too many pre-conceptions or expectations.

We feel that in quite a crowded market he is a very unique and very different kind of comic book hero. So it will be great if Ant Man got made at some point. We think we’ve written a pretty cool script.

@tea- Yeah, maybe but spiders have the whole creepy, arachnaphobia thing going for them which makes them sound cooler. Ants just get stepped on a lot.

I would love to see Ant-man's arch nemisis, Magnifying Glass-Man appear in the movie though!

Theyre going through with this shit? (sighs), SMH, mm mm mm. Ant-Man would be better off being an support character in the Avengers, not having his own flick. oh well, good riddance.

I would love to my boy Hank Pym have his own movie on the darker side of his stories.

This is the way to do it. It shouldn't be titled Ant-Man. It should be Titled Hank Pym!

That's is what these stories are about. Not about some lames powers but the people and life's behind them.

Hank Pym = Ultron = Vision! Not to men ton characters like Wonder-man.

My make Hank deep and complex like he been in the comics.

Hank Pym underrated. We don't need some goofy comedic marvel flic to make their whole marvel U a joke. NO campyness please!

I hope we get this movie sooner rather than much later.

The whole secret agent approach(if they're still going with that) could work really well if done right.

Theme Song: Secret Agent (Ant)Man

"I've taken on the Orkin Man." ;)

I think of it the same way as the Fantastic Four. It does not have to and should not be campy. It could and can have humorous elements like any decent film.

But the moment they start play comedic music in the background of a scene then the whole feeling of a film gone out the widow.

Our friendly neighborhood Spider-man shoots webs from his wrist, crawls on ceilings and tells joke while fighting. So would you want a campy Spider-man movie?

No we wouldn't. We just want Spider-man to tell some damn jokes in a serious film.

TheMalcontent
TheMalcontent - 12/5/2011, 6:07 PM
If they make a joke out of this film I for one won't be laughing.

I don't want to see a Ant-man movie.

I want to see a Hank Pym movie. A movie about a troubled geniuses who tries to do right and be the hero that a could be but keeps falling short. But not in a campy way. More of a sad desperate way.

@NoRegrets You didn't like Shawn of the Dead or Hot Fuzz?

I thought at least those were decent films. I was a fan Scott Pilgrim.(not my type of film at all)
It wasn't poorly crafted tho.

I don't know what make him the guy for Ant-man tho.
I always been skeptical of him over this film.

I don't believe he is going to do Hank Pym justice, but I sure hope he does.

The Ant-Man/Wasp origins comic Marvel put out recently was great. It even begins with his contemplating the death of his wife Maria before he does the shrinking and references his fight against the Scarlet Beetle as well as giving good balance to Janet part of the story.

He's not a traditional super hero, but then neither are the Fantastic Four. They are adventurers. Ant-Man is about adventure and fringe science, exploring science so incredible it seems like magic. He's Ant-Man. He has Tales to Astonish.
