Simon Pegg Keen on Playing the Villain of Edgar Wright's Ant-Man Movie

The Shaun of the Dead actor explains his lack of interest in playing the lead in longtime-buddy Edgar Wright's Ant-Man film, but wouldn't mind the evildoer. Check it Out!

Attending the premiere of his latest venture Burke and Hare, English actor Simon Pegg, known for one of his many collaborations with director Edgar Wright; Shaun of the Dead, was drawn into questions regarding Wright's early-staged Ant-Man movie. In an excerpt from an interview with London View’s Matthew Turner, Pegg answers...

Would you play Ant-Man if they asked you to?
"Ed's not going to ask me to play Ant-Man! He wants some young – he'll want, like Chris Evans to do it or one of his new American buddies."

Evans can't be Captain America AND Ant-Man though.
"Oh, that's true. Yeah, that's true. I don't know – I don't think I'd want to play Ant-Man. I think it would be more fun to play a villain in that thing. I'd like to play a villain. But no, they're going to want some good-looking young American. That's a Marvel movie – funny-looking British actors don't play a big part in that unless they're bad."

You can play scientists! Henry Pym's a scientist.
"Yeah, scientists, but not scientists that turn into size-shifting superheroes. It's like Bruce Campbell should have played Spider-Man, you know?"

I remember back when Marvel Studios announced their lineup of independently produced films. And when word came that Edgar Wright was lined up to direct the Ant-Man, It was said to be as a pure comedy, with Simon Pegg instantly attached to play the Astonishing Avenger. While that was purely speculated, I'd love to see Pegg in this Marvel film. And being that theres only three 'Ant-Man' villains I can see easily translated to film - Egghead, Protector, and Doctor Nemesis - who do you think Pegg could play in the Marvel Universe?

Wow, I love Pegg and all, but he sounds like kind of a prick in this interview.
Seriously needs to give Marvel more credit. Of course Marvel casts American actors, they're playing AMERICAN CHARACTERS.

Either he doesn't know much about the characters themselves or he's just being a douche towards Americans.

And before anybody gets all offended (Because I know some idiot out there is going to), I have nothing against British people.

I think THIS version of Ant-man will not be made, Disney/Marvel may kick him off the directorial chair and perhaps leave him as writer....I mean this sounds more of an insult than a tribute to fans. Having Pym in the 60s and Scott Lang being in the Modern age sounds like a big F you to fans of the Pym Character and any chance of him joining the Avengers.

@Hiraga
He never said anything negative about Americans. When asked about whether or not he would be offered a character he said they'd probably cast an American, that's it. Not "Oh, [frick]ing assholes are going to cast another American pig to play yet another American superhero in their 90-minute Burger King commercials!"

Saying "I know somebody will get offended" at the end of your post doesn't give you the right to be a douche.

@RoscoeFolgers LOL, how was I being a douche? I wasn't flying off the handle or anything. I'm not knocking Pegg, I still think he's fricken awesome, it's just that this line

"But no, they're going to want some good-looking young American. That's a Marvel movie – funny-looking British actors don't play a big part in that unless they're bad."

Came off to me as kind of a sly against Marvel. It sounded a bit douchey. I'm not saying he is, and I'm not saying he's trying to be, but I do think he needs to give Marvel more credit.

And I said I know somebody will get offended because have you SEEN some of the people on this site? Someone was bound to take it the wrong way.

If he was joking like ckal said, then rofl. That's actually a good one.

Anyway, I definitely think Pegg should be in the Marvel movie universe somewhere. Not as Ant-Man...I'm actually not sure who he should play, but I would like to see him in there somewhere.

I think an Ant-Man movie would be fun. I'd love to see Pegg's take on the titular diminutive hero, but him playing a villain is just as good. I just hope they don't include spousal abuse in Pym's movie story line. He really is a great character, but no one will let him live that down... Argh! Curse ye, Craig!

Really? Because that comes off to me as more of him taking the piss, which is something that British people do well (Almost, but not quite as well as Australians). ie: hes making fun of both British people and the cliche that British people are always the villians.
Also, I'd be willing to bet that what the line about Evans was about, the reporter/interviewer didn't catch that it was a joke.

@Yorel You must have skipped the part in my post where I said that if it was was a joke then I thought it was funny.

Although I very much doubt the probability of an Ant/Giant Man film ever coming to fruition, I agree with Simon Pegg that he is not right for such a role.
He could make a more than decent villian though. Egghead perhaps?

But more to the point:
@StevilNYC "I just hope he's keen on playing Wee Hughie."
Now that would be a simply fantastic role for him!
Not surprising because the character WAS based on him to begin with.

Simon Pegg as Egg-Head, selling secrets to commie spies and being behind the creation of who ever Ant-Man I and Ant-Man II face off

Despite Anil's dislike of the project i have high hopes for it.. especially if they make it a period 1950's piece and have it tie-in to the creation of SHIELD.

Like ckal said... he was joking!:)

I think Pegg would be pretty interesting villain!

Aaron Eckhart or Patrick Wilson as Henry Pym
Ryan Kwanten as Scott Lang

Simon Pegg u can play a villain its not like Hollywood never casted a British actors as villains. Brit actors are well known to be villains in Hollywood films.

even Marvel Studio casted British actor Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination in The Incredible Hulk.

Toby Jones is playing Arnim Zola in Captain America: The First Avenger. still hope for u Simon Pegg LOL

u guys know Simon Pegg is joking right?

Constantly bemused by the lack of understanding on this site. Pegg is making unemotional statements of fact. Neither Marvel or any other studio would take a chance on a normal looking guy as a superhero lead.If he actually wanted to take a swipe st Marvel, American movies or Americans in general it would pretty easy and a hell of a lot funnier.

they should just put ant-man in the avengers along with the wasp.

a solo ant-man movie would suck,ant-man & wasp would be better.

also a giant-man film would be even better than that.

Ant Man = Noah Wyle
Wasp = Morena Baccarin
Stilt man = Simon Pegg
Big Wheel = Nick Frost
Egg Head = Peter Serafinowicz

Lame villains team up to beat him, sounds like an Edgar Wright method
