Web-Crawler: ANT-MAN's Amount Of Comedy, S.T.A.R. Labs' Ethics And Jon Hamm As Negan

Web-crawler is a column that collects news items that may not warrant an article by themselves and combines them (like Voltron) for one super article. The latest installment includes rapper T.I. talking Ant-Man, The Flash's metahuman prison and Jon Hamm as Negan on The Walking Dead.

Speaking to Collider to promote his new film, Get Hard, rapper/actor Tip Harris gave an interesting quote regarding Marvel's Ant-Man.  "I think there will be a lot more comedy than you expect from a Marvel franchise," said Harris.  The Atlanta rappers is playing an ex-con and is a member of Paul Rudd's gang from his criminal past that also decides to reform his ways.  Check out the interview below.

Speaking to TV Line, The Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told the site that in episode 22, titled "Rogue Air", the S.T.A.R. Labs crew will all discuss the moral implications of appointing themselves judge and jury for the ever-growing collection of metahumans currently being held prisoner in The Pipeline.  "There’s a long discussion [in Episode 22] about the moral implications of the pipeline and what keeping them there means. Do they have that right?  All the characters get to chime in on how they feel about it. That’s exciting because — beyond everybody always asking how do they go to the bathroom and where do they get their food from — some of them are super dangerous. So, how do you let them out into the world?” Episode 17 of The Flash airs this Tuesday at 8PM.

Now that AMC's Mad Men is finished, would Jon Hamm be interested in joining The Walking Dead to play fan-favorite villain, Negan? Hamm tells MTV that he does have a hard time saying 'No' and that he and Robert Kirkman have met a few times and that he's aware of the success of the show.  Watch the video below. The 90-minute season 5 finale of The Walking Dead airs tonight at 9PM on AMC. Do you think Hamm would make a good Negan?

I suppose I'm not allowed to criticize this? I'm just not a fan of constant comedy in Superhero movies because it ruins the dramatic tension (a-la IM3, TTDW, and the ending of GOTG). I still hope it's great though.

I totally agree. For me it just takes me out of the movie. The whole city was being destroyed in GOTG, people dying and the ending climax just totally turned into one big joke which just totally lowered the threat of it all.

It also turned the villains into caricatures.

It's Ant-Man for God sakes. The dude shrinks. There's gonna be comedy, deal with it. He's not Moon Knight.

Anyways, Hamm is a formidable looking dude. I'm quite surprised we haven't seen him in a mean, beat the shit out of you with my bare hands, type role yet.

There was also way too much comedy with Fantastic four and look at how that turned out.

Are people talking about Quill's dance moves when complaining about the ending of Guardians? Because while it was certainly hilarious in a way imo that whole confrontation was seriously one of the most awesome 'boss fights' ever in a superhero(ish) movie!

Sure, make a few jokes at the fact he shrinks in the movie but then that should be it,
Sprinkles of comedy but make us take the hero seriously, despite his "ridiculous" powers.

That's an interesting point about the meta human prison in The Flash, would Reverse Flash end up there?

I don't think Edgar Wright's script would've been as humorous as the cornetto trilogy, as I bet Simon Pegg injected a lot of his humour and jokes into it.

The origin part of the F4 was decent and Ben Grimm, but yes, everything else sucked.

I AGREE WITH YOU COMPLETELY. Humor is good. But there needs to be balance. I don't want Marvel to paint themselves into a creative corner by always worrying about the "it won't be fun if there isn't a sh!ton of humor" myth.

They should look to emulate The Winter Soldier formula in that respect.

@LubedUp

Ronan still had the stone, ready to cause mass amounts of more destruction to the guardians and everybody else and yeah, the dancing was funny but I guess I was more in the camp of "what the..." rather than "haha he's being a d*ck but he's funny"

See those comments are great, exploring the technological side, and a humours element not necessarily meaning it'll be a. Big part which is an impression I got from the trailer and interviews since. It's supposed to be real life, and of course sprinkles of humour should always be incorporated.

With the exception of guardians though. Which had an amazing writer with James Gunn the comedy has been the most criticized in most of the MCU movies. I personally don't find paul rudd and adam mckay that funny. So having more comedy then we are expecting, i'm not sure if thats a good thing.

I'm not gonna lie, Marvel isn't impressing me.

Besides Winter Soldier, Phrase 1 IM0 so far is better then Phrase 2. Iron Man 1 and Thor 1 were leagues better then their sequels. Look at the ending to Iron Man 1 for example. Then tension, the acting, the tone between Stark and Stane with Pepper below. The look at Iron Man 3 with Killian and the second Pepper "dies" it's like Tony isn't affected by it at all.

Here's IM3's. Can't embed it.

I don't mind comedy but there's a difference between have a comedy film and having comedy in a film and Marvel's films are looking more like comedy films.

Thank God the Russos are taking over. They know how to use comedy.

That's why they say different strokes for different folks :)
For me, it didn't work. There was very little dramatic tension. Ronan should be scary as hell, and he was made utterly ridiculous with that dance. I understand that these movies don't have to take themselves THAT seriously, but they do have to take the characters seriously. Otherwise legitimate threats will be consistently undermined by this pervasive need for humor everywhere.
I remember IM3's trailer, when fake mandarin threatened to tear sh!t up. I was sooo excited. Needless to say the movie ended up being nothing but a brain fart cartoon.

There's only so much seriousness that can be injected into a film about a man who shrinks and commands ants....the realm of disbelief...you need levity. Just like gotg, a film with a talking racoon and tree, levity and comedy are a benefit. Even Edgar wright was still at the helm, he would've injected comedy too I sure and loads of fun

Rudd and McKay are Comedic guys who have taken part in funny projects, I'm sure they know how to use it wisely here.
