AQUAMAN: A First Look At Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Villainous Black Manta Has Finally Surfaced

Today is going to be a good day for DC Comics fans because Warner Bros. has released a first look at the villainous Black Manta in Aquaman and it's clear that James Wan is sticking closely to the comics.

Following the release of those awesome Aquaman covers, Entertainment Weekly has now released the first official image of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's David Kane, a.k.a. Black Manta. As you can see, he's working on a prototype of his iconic suit here and it's now clear that the DC Comics adaptation won't be shying away from the source material in terms of how the villain will be portrayed on screen.

"He’s part mercenary but full-time pirate who in his suit will look like some crazy alien from outer space," director James Wan teases. However, he won't be Aquaman's main antagonist; that honour goes to Patrick Wilson's King Orm. "Black Manta is a really interesting character who is somehow factored into this story but our main story is about Jason and Patrick," the filmmaker teases.

It's great to see Aquaman embracing the comic books like this because it would have been easy to give Black Manta a more grounded look, doing away with that iconic helmet of his in the process. What do you think of this tantalising first look at the character? Share your thoughts in the usual place.
