Critics and bloggers/influencers are (supposed to be) embargoed from sharing their thoughts on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom until tomorrow afternoon, but with the movie already showing in several locations overseas, a few social media reactions have been posted early.

Out of the posts we've come across, we'd say the reactions are leaning mixed/negative - although some really did not care for James Wan's DC Comics sequel.

Like the first Aquaman, the visuals and action sequences have come in for praise, but unlike its predecessor (depending on who you ask), it sounds like the "juvenile humor" mostly falls flat. The script/dialogue and overall story have also been heavily criticised, along with the "inconsistent" performances.

More reactions will be flooding online fairly soon, and they may tell a diffrent story. For now, have a look at what we have below - but be warned that some contain fairly significant spoilers. You may also have to click "translate" on Twitter for certain posts.

"Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.

All returning to the roles they originated, Jason Momoa plays Arthur Curry/Aquaman, no, after w balancing his duties as both the King of Atlantis and a new father; Patrick Wilson is Orm, Aquaman’s half-brother and his nemesis, who must now step into a new role as his brother’s reluctant ally; Amber Heard is Mera, Atlantis’ Queen and mother of the heir to the throne; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Black Manta, committed more than ever to avenge his father’s death by destroying Aquaman, his family and Atlantis; and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, a fierce leader and mother with the heart of a warrior. Also reprising their roles are Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus and Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin."

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to swim into theaters on December 21. Do you plan on seeing the movie opening weekend? Drop us a comment down below.

There is a reason WB delayed and delayed this film.

"If you’re someone who liked the first Aquaman movie, then you’re gonna love #AquamanAndTheLostKingdom."

SOLD.

@RockReigns -

*People were too hasty with their “worst films of 2023” lists because #Aquaman2 is painfully bad. Makes Ant-Man 3 look like Citizen Kane. What a terrible end to an already bad year for superhero films. Stay for a mid-credits scene that sums up the DCEU better than words ever could*

This review here is brutal 😬

Worse than Ant-Man 3? That can't be true😬

@AmazingFILMporg - that is bollocks. This is way better than Quantumania.

I feel bad for Wan. Feel like he's a good director yet his vision for this movie got butchered over and over. I'll give it a watch, eventually

@MotherGooseUPus - I feel bad for Momoa too. Regardless of whether or not he should have been aquaman he very clearly has a love for the character.

@Oberlin4Prez - he only plays the character in name

He is just momoa in an Aquaman costume

Hes entertaining but he is no different than The rock in acting ability

Even the "positive" reactions have lots of caveats.

"Despite flaws like missed jokes, mediocre acting, and lazy dialogue, it remains a decent DCEU film!"

-Yeah, MINOR stuff like lame jokes, bad acting, and shitty dialogue...other than that it's a "decent DCEU film", which isn't saying anything. 🤣

The WB/DC brand is so damaged. Gunn's semi-reboot is gonna bomb hard!

Definitely agree with the praise on Arthur & Orm's dynamic, they're the highlight of the film. They reminds me of Thor and Loki so much

Whoever was the casting director for these DC films ruined it for me. They really saw the perfect Lobo actor and said he's perfect for Aquaman
Matchesz
Matchesz - 12/20/2023, 8:38 PM
@Matchesz - Woulda been cool to have seen the DCEU play out different where Jason Mamoa was Lobo from the beginning and was included in Suicide Squad 3. Such poor planning cause all these hollywood execs buss their load prematurely soon as they see dollar signs

Feralwookiee - 12/20/2023, 8:41 PM
@Matchesz - That was mostly Snyder, at least originally, from what I remember.

@Matchesz - We say that but Aquaman 1 made a billion largely off the back of Mamoa as Arthur. On paper it was great casting.

Also I saw Wonka yesterday and actually loved it lol. Paul King knows how to really mess with your feelings, and Timothy Chalamet is infectious as Wonka! I'm not the biggest fan of musicals but this only has a few songs, and they're great. The trailer doesn't give this movie the proper preview. Get to the theater! They're open 7 days a week at 10am lol

@bobevanz - I saw Wonka yesterday too. It really is a perfect little film. Especially for the Holidays. I might see it again and I think this could be a future classic.

I can see it being rereleased a la Greatest Showman. Maybe a sing-along version too.

Chalomet's Wonka is so good. He's different to Wilder's, but they are separated by age and experience. I can see him eventually becoming the darker, more twisted Wonka after 20 more years.

I'd still [frick] Amber Heard. I've got like a couple hundred in my 401k. But, I'm kinda firm on the using the toilet thing.
