Aquaman has earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office and regardless of whether you loved it, hated it, or found yourself somewhere in between, there's no denying that Arthur Curry's first solo outing was a visually impressive looking movie.

Now, some new before and after VFX stills have been revealed and they provide a fascinating look into the work that went into bringing the DC Comics superhero to the big screen.

For example, did you realise that those underwater scenes featured entirely CGI hair? As you can see, Jason Momoa's locks have been tied up so that it could be recreated with VFX and made to appear as if he really is in the ocean. A number of locations were also enhanced in post-production, while these images also provide fresh looks at the
Karathen and King Atlan.

So, to take a look at these images, all you guys have to do is hit the "View List" button below.

I can imagine 100's of animators siting at their desks for months working on computer generated hair, WB really spared no expense with this one

@BigMikeReviews - They had to, if aquaman failed then they would've reboot the whole universe and maybe have WW84 as the last film, or maybe even a contained trilogy and then reboot

My big issue with the wavy hair is because of the last Pirates movie cause the main bad guy had the wavy hair and it looked ridiculous so the entire time watching Aquaman I had that on my mind. Though i wasnt a fan of the film personally vfx dors deserve praise.

Honestly surprised this wasn't nominated for VFX. Though $1B isn't a bad consolation prize. Can't wait till this is out on bluray!

Yes because hair doesn't stay only slightly wavy in water but goes all over the damn place?

They can CGI hair and make it look that damn good but when they try and take off a fricking moustache we end up with a monstrosity??? Well it's WB so makes sense I suppose

The Visual Effects Society only nominated Aquaman in 2 categories and it lost those. Maybe it wasn't snubbed anywhere.

I'm not sure why CGI hair is a surprise? It was obvious in many scenes (the throne scene for instance) even though it looked mostly great.

I do like what I'm seeing for that rooftop chase sequence though. Very creative looking set.

Something tells me WB didn't screen this movie at all for awards because there no reason this didn't get Oscar or BAFTA nominations but Suicide Squad won a whole Academy Award.

This movie should have had a VFX award nomination, but strangely WB is always left aside at the Oscars:(

How this is not nominated to VFX and Black Panther indeed is... Still amazes me.

This film, like it or not, is a visual spectacle work of art. The amount of work that was put on it, it was gigantic.

@BorjaHetfield - I feel both BP and Aquaman deserve VFX noms. Both films had some dodgy CGI here and there but both were visually beautiful films to look at.

Such a visually beautiful movie. Shame it gets ignored by the awards gang, but at least it made a shit ton of money.

his Year Award season are so bad because movies who didn't desserve a nomination are nominated in another hand a lot of movie who deserved a nomination are not nominated. Maybe this is the reason rating are low .

The CGI hair in Aquaman was hilariously distracting. Mera's hair was the biggest offender, but even Arthur's digital weave went a little too wild most of the time

I think VFX in this movie made everything look fake which is a shame because it was mostly all practical. For example, I didn't know the Atlanteans were all wearing real suits until went to the surface. To me, this had the Star Wars prequels effect. Those films actually used a lot of real sets, locations, miniatures, props, etc. but so much CGI was added to it that it became unrecognizable.

I just think this:

looks so much better than this:

In the first image, you can actually tell it's a real structure that was built. In the second image, I can't even tell if it's real because the set is hidden under layers of VFX.

The scene when they are running on the rooftops was much better in the extended preview, because it didn't have music, so it fetl tense. In the actual movie, they added music and ruined it.

I had very low expectations of this film... and it still underwhelmed. I don't begrudge anyone for liking it, but I couldn't find a reason to enjoy it.
