While a lot of the Atlantis scenes in Justice League didn't make the film's final cut, we only have to wait about a year to get a look at James Wan's vision of the aquatic kingdom. For now, we'll just have to rely on behind-the-scenes photos to tide us over before the movie's first trailer is released.
Action star Dolph Lundgren, who plays warrior king Nereus, recently shared a picture of his training for the film's fight scenes. While the picture doesn't give us a look at any costumes or sets, it shows us that Lundgren will be getting into some pretty awesome underwater brawls.
Nereus is a fairly new character in Aquaman lore, making his first appearance in 2013. However, we shouldn't be surprised that he is going to be in this film, since one of the writers, Geoff Johns, also penned the 2013 Aquaman story arc where Nereus debuted.
Lundgren is no stranger to fight scenes, as he played Frank Castle in
The Punisher (1989), and He-Man in
Masters of the Universe, just to name a couple. Seeing Lundgren in boxing gloves is also a pretty familiar sight, as he famously brought Ivan Drago to the screen in
Rocky IV .
The Swedish actor should add some pretty solid action cred to
Aquaman, and it will be interesting to see how much of a role Nereus has in the movie. We can only assume Lundgren will get to fight Jason Momoa's Aquaman on screen when the movie hits theatres on December 21, 2018.
