It doesn't sound like Jason Momoa has any intention of handing over the role of Aquaman any time soon!
Despite persistent rumors that recently-appointed DC Studios co-CEOS James Gunn and Peter Safran are planning a full reboot of the DCEU DCU, it seems at least some of the old guard may be staying put.
Last night, Momoa shared a video expressing his excitement about a meeting with Gunn and Safran, indicating that he's secured a deal to play a different character (most likely Lobo), but the Dune actor was adamant that he'll be holding on to the King of Atlantis' crown while speaking to Variety at Sundance.
“I’ll always be Aquaman. The rumors are - ain’t no one coming in there and taking shit. Then there might be some other characters too... I can play other things too.”
“We have a special relationship…I wish I could say more,” Momoa added when asked if he'll be parting ways with Arthur Curry under the new DC Studios regime. “I’ll always be Aquaman, and there’s a lot of evolution for that. So I’m not going anywhere and it’s very exciting.”
So... he's going to be Aquaman and a completely different character in the same universe? We'll hopefully get some clarification once Gunn shares some more details on the DCU slate, which should be before the end of the month.
