Do you know what's more popular than Girl Scouts' Samoas cookies? Samoas that come out of a box with
Aquaman star Jason Momoa's shirtless body plastered on it.
An adorable story has been making the rounds about a fifth-grade Girl Scout named Charlotte Holmberg who rebranded the classic cookie box with a photo of a shirtless Jason Momoa from
Aquaman on it to help sell the already-addictive cookies.
The Colorado-based "Cookie CEO for the Girls - a title given to those who sell the most cookies - sold more than 2,000 boxes in 2018. But Holmberg, with the help of her mom (who also works in marketing), came up with the brilliant packaging rebrand to help up her game. And it's working.
According to an official post by the Girl Scouts of Colorado, the "Momoas" started as an "inside joke" with family and friends. However, like all clever ideas, it blew up once word got out and Holmberg quickly sold out of her supply of cookies.
"The moms are getting really excited and they're saying that they need them!" Charlotte told Denver's 9News.
"The girls will wanna buy some because he's on the front. And the boys will also wanna buy some because he's like, he might be like they're favorite character."
Cookie season is still in full swing, but Holmberg is no longer using the image of Jason Momoa on any new boxes of Somoas, likely due to the legality issues that could arise.
While the story is definitely a heartwarming one, it should be noted that this was probably done without the approval of Jason Momoa. It's doubtful that he, or Warner Bros. or DC, will actually file for copyright infringement due to the bad optics, but the Girl Scouts should use this as an important teaching moment about the use of a person's likeness in business marketing.
