James Spader is a tremendous actor who always seems to be up for a challenge. In the io9.com article he explains his challenges and a little bit of the history of how him, Kevin Feigce, and Joss arrived at the role he should play:
Every so often there were some conversations over the years, "maybe this, maybe that." We both had agreed to really try and wait and find just the right thing.
James also goes on to talk about how challenging the role was for him:
And so I was really excited because I, first of all, was going to be working on something that not only the material and the world that I was going to be inhabiting was going to be so different for me. But also the process of making the film was going to be an entirely new thing for me.
I cannot wait to see exactly what he brings to Ultron, and hopefully he will be the greatest foe our beloved Avenger have met thus far!
