Robert Downey Jr. Talks AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON; Tells Which Avenger He Thinks Has The Most Importance
In a new interview Robert Downey Jr. tells us what to expect from Avengers: Age of Ultron, how leadership have shifted (in favor of Captain America), and which Avenger (he thinks) will have the most pivotal part in the film. Hit the jump to check it out!
In a new interview, Robert Downey Jr. told how his character Tony Stark has evolved since the first Avengers film and turned most of his attention to different aspects, "With the first film, The Avengers, Tony was becoming a team player and with Iron Man 3, it was him transcending his dependency on the tech that's keeping him alive." He then continues, "There's the matter of a certain wormhole that opened over New York and the imminent threat that still implies, so Tony has turned his attentions more toward a bit of a post-Reagan-era, Star-Wars-type notion and he likes to call it Ultron."
Robert Downey Jr. then tells the only two people in Tony Stark's life that he would "lower his status" for, "There are really only two relationships in Tony's life in which he's been willing to assume a lower status and one's with Pepper obviously, equal footing, and the other is with Cap" He then elaborates and tells why he would let Captain America A.K.A. Steve Rogers take control, "Cap has the most experience. It's also nice to feel like there's someone under whose tutelage you become better at what you have to do and no one's more battle-seasoned than Cap." Just as Stark said in our official TV Spot 2, Capt.'s the boss, he just designs everything and makes everyone look cooler!
He then talks about his favorite thing in the Avengers: Age of Ultron script, "To me it's further developing the complexities of the relationship between all the main folks. I like that Thor has a beef with me and then eventually has to say I'm right." He then says that (strangely) his favorite part of the script is the ending of the film, "It's just interesting and the way it all wraps up to me is super exciting but strangely my favorite part about Avengers: Age of Ultron is what's brought into potential at the end." Even though he's loves the end of the film most, Robert Downey Jr. reveals that he thinks Hawkeye's part of the story is most important, "Hawkeye's arc and his importance in the movie and where he brings us and what happens there and what it means." We already know that Hawkeye will be a mentor for the twins, but according to RDJ above, he'll have a much more important role.
Lastly, RDJ tells what he hopes the fans will get out of this film and what he liked most about working with director Joss Whedon. " Honestly, this time I just hope people say "Wow." I hope that they feel as good about this as they did when they came and saw the third Iron Man, or as they did when they saw the most recent Captain America and Thor" As for Whedon, Robert says he's "just really smart and he thinks stuff through." He also says that "Joss Whedon really brought it to another level by writing a very fun, deeper and wider story."
