AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR And AVENGERS 4 Reportedly Have A Massive $1 Billion Budget

It was rumoured to be the case a long time ago, but a new report appears to confirm that the combined budget of the next two Avengers movies will indeed be upwards of $1 billion. Read on for details...

Way back in 2015, Bleeding Cool reported that the next two Avengers movies would have a combined budget of $1 billion. Many scoffed at such a figure, but the site has now spotted a story over at The Atlanta Business Chronicle which seemingly confirms that earlier story. If accurate, this number makes these the most expensive movies ever made so Disney must be expecting two huge hits!

"We now have
on the lot down there now the largest film production ever with a $1 billion budget," said Chick-fil-A CEO and Pinewood Atlanta Studios co-owner Dan Cathy, clearly referencing Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, both of which are set to be released in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

That may seem like a lot of money to spend, but with The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Spider-Man all expected to appear, both making well over $1 billion makes perfect sense and means Disney will more than double their money (before we take merchandising, home video sales, and licensing partners into account). Before this, the movie with the highest budget was Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger with $378 million, so the studio spending $500 million on each isn't a stretch!

Are you excited to see how these two movies turn out? Do you think Disney is spending way too much or is that just the right amount
for such massive releases? Let us know your thoughts below.

"both making well over $1 billion makes perfect sense and means Disney will more than double their money"

The studio earns, what, 45% of the BO? Wilding's is a film buff yet his understanding of film economics is a joke (and factually incorrect).

I believe it. It's really not much more than the $300m New Line spent on the LOTR trilogy in 1999, if you factor in inflation.

@crawley - You're probably right, however I would say that factoring the bump to merchandising, etc (which is how WB notoriously calculate their profits) this is definitely a no-lose equation for Disney.

Marvel having already grossed something like $10 billion with their films surely has enough in the bank to float this duo-logy as a passion project.

A 500 million budget for each would be a serious mistake.
That means that each would have to get approximately a 500 million box office domestic and 750 million box office overseas just to BREAK EVEN.

@JoeMomma29 - Why? It's one of the biggest movies ever made with one of the biggest all star casts ever in a movie. With all the money they've earned from the MCU, it's not like Disney can't afford it.

Also, it's possible that the $1 billion number is the combined production value for BOTH films...

@MattBellissimo - Could it be true......yes.
