Marvel Studios has yet to announce a director for what is shaping up to be the biggest MCU movie yet, Avengers: Secret Wars, and it sounds like Kevin Feige and co. might be looking to enlist a tried and tested filmmaker to ensure the hugely ambitious project is in safe hands.
According to Jeff Sneider on this week's episode of The Hot Mic Podcast, the studio may have turned to the directors behind some of the most popular and successful movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and Ryan Coogler (Black Panther).
Favreau is said to be far too busy in the Star Wars universe for the next few years, but we're also hearing that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton - who is set to helm Avengers: The Kang Dynasty - has pitched them on him staying on to handle the follow-up. It sounds like Feige would rather have a different filmmaker take charge of Secret Wars, however.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness screenwriter Michael Waldron was hired to pen the script late last year, but we have no idea how much - if any - progress has been made since then. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's Jeff Loveness had been working on the script for The Kang Dynasty, but has now reportedly parted ways with the project.
We still don't know what to expect from the plot of Secret Wars, but some pretty wild rumors have been doing the rounds.
