Black Widow's license plate may hint at Cap 3 and Avengers 3 Story line

A possible Easter egg in TWS, Black Widow's License plate, may point to Captain's story in Phase 3. Hit the jump for my theory on what it means. *CAP 2 SPOILERS*

*WARNING: CONTAINS Captain America: The Winter Soldier SPOILERS*

Last weekend, like most of you (hopfully all), had the pleasure of watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  Also like most of you (hopefully all), I am an Easter Egg FIEND and TWS was dripping Easter eggy goodness:  Dr. Strange Reference, Sharon Carter, Matthew Brodrick (It was Wargames, not Saw, and shame on you for thinking otherwise), Crossbones (duh), the Twins (BAMFS), and, my personal favorite, a shout out to Pulp Fiction.

Then there was this:

If you didnt see it, it's probably because it was on the screen for roughly half a second in the first scene (much like The Infinity Gautlet).  After Cap and Falcon bro out over some Marvin Gaye, Black Widow drives up in her sexy 2014 Corvette Stingray.  She sexily sasses Cap, he gets in the car, and she sexily speeds away.  Now, I am well aware that DC liscence plates use the standard XX=XXXX as seen here.

But the standard DC plate uses only numbers in the last four spots so to the nay sayers I say: your probably right, but humor me.

Now, 1Y=R31I could mean a number of things, or nothing at all.  Hell, it could be a nod to Inhumans or somthing considering R31I relates to a DNA marker, or it could be somthing with Ant-Man, assuming 1Y means one year in our time, but I doubt it.

Now... my theory.  If 1Y means one year and is not referenceing Ant-Man, then 1Y could be one year in the MCU which could put it cronologically around Cap 3 and Avengers: To Infinity and Beyond (gonna play around with a few titles).  Which would bring us in the realm of The Mad Titan Thanos (its important, I'll come back to that).  Now here is the suuuuuuper streachy part, My interpertation of R31I is somthing along the lines of "Read 31st issue" or "Recent 31st Issue", somthing having to do with an Issue 31.  Well, in the many volumes of Captain America  there are a few Captain America 31s including a story about Sharon becoming the Shield Director, somthing about snakes, and a mildly racist issue where Cap and Buck kill a bunch of Japanese (seriously, google it, its kinda hilarious).  But there was one that caught my attention.

This issue is beginning of Act 2 of the Death of Captain America story Arc.  Now if your not familiar with this Arc then google it (I'm not going to hold your hand, most of you (sadly, probably all) are adults), but the arc includes heavy appearances by Sharon Carter, Falcon, Black Widow, Crossbones, Buck, Baron Zemo and the FREAKING RED SKULL (love that guy), all of which are established in the MCU and have contracts to fulfill (except for Zemo, so replace Zemo with Von Strucker and boom, problem solved.  So, this is how I think it will go Cap 3, whatever the main story is, will most likely end with the death of Steve Rogers by the hands of *SPOILER* a brain washed Sharon Carter, seeing as the Baron has the mind gem and all, basically a modified Act 1 of the Death of Steve Rogers. And the beginning of The Avengers: Will Make More than DC  will start off with this, issue 31, volume 5, as the Cap arc.  Because Thanos wont get in the fight unless he has to (or is bored), he will send someone to act as his Liaison, enter the Red Skull.  That is what I belive might be the Mid-Credits scene  for Cap 3.  When Red Skull gets slurped up by the Cosmic Cube Tesseract, he had to end up somewhere, well as we saw in the Avengers, other side of the "door" is not Random, so where would he end up? Well with the current owner of the Mind Gem at this time, Thanos.  So in The Avengers: Wait Where the F*** is Wolverine, the Cap Arc will be about Bucky struggling to accept the mantle of Cap, ultimately accepting his role  just in time for the final battle with Thanos and Red Skull.

There it is, and I know what your thinking, "Chris Evans has a 6 picture deal."  Well, how is Bucky, a now former assasin and nobodys best friend, going to deal with losing his childhood friend and having to replace him with noone to talk too? Internally... or more specifically FLASHBACKS.  Chris Evans can fulfill his contract and not even be "in" the movie. On a side note, Thank you Chris it'll be sad to see you go but you ARE Steve Rogers.

Well there it is, don't like it? Don't care, you read it anyway. But if you have any thoughts, good or bad, make sure to rant in the comments.

Oh... and regarding Sebastian Stan's 9 picture deal...

can't wait.

Ummmmm........no. They're not killing off Rogers, especially with how good this movie is doing. Seriously, you fanboys need to stop wanting the movies to copy the comics so closely.

@Lhornbk -

No, LicensePlate 1Y=R31I doesn't mean Read31stIssue Captain America.

It means in 1Year, Our Third One(third movie by Russo Brothers) Is Infinity War.

The project got delay'd, but yes. The Russo's confirmed they're directing Infinity War part 1, and it's gonna be their 3rd Marvel Movie (after they did Cap AP 2 & 3) :)

@Lhornbk they'll have to. Evans deal is up after Avengers 3, and he said after he finished his contract he wants to leave acting. Marvel has clearly stated they are unwilling to budge when it comes to contracts and payment. Since they are keeping these going until 2028, they'll either recast or replace.

Wow...This is intriguing. Someone seriously needs to kill Sharon, I mean why is she a character? Anyways, it's not impossible and you make good points about showing Chris in flashbacks. I'm really starting to think Cap will die in either third movie. Both directors meaning Whedon and the Russo's have brought up killing off a character, but in the right way. And Chris is a adamant about finishing that contract and directing. Plus, with the reception Sebastian got from TWS, I could see him as Cap and people being okay with this. Nice theory!

"Marvel has clearly stated they are unwilling to budge when it comes to contracts and payment."

That must be why they renegotiated with RDJ to extend his contract and give him more payment. Now Evans is making RDJ money for them, so I bet they'll budge some for him too.

Lastly, great calling Black Widow "boobs". I stopped taking the article seriously at that point, and skimmed really quickly from then on, and simply read Lhornbk's comment to figure out the point. Thanks Lhornbk.

Guys y'all gotta stop being offended when they talk about killing people in the MCU. It's apart of the comics story and it definitely can happen in the MCU. As a matter of fact, that is one of the biggest complaints of their movies so far, is that no one has died and stayed dead of relative importance. I believe it's gonna happen sooner than later and it'll shake things up in a good way. Even Kevin said the roster is forever rotating and making room for other people. Y'all need to accept the inevitable.

Chris Evans said Avengers 3 is his last marvel movie

Cap 3 comes out before Avengers 3

So how can u say he's going to die in Cap 3, when he's going to be in avengers 3
Destined
Destined - 4/8/2014, 11:42 PM
@Jojo in the article he said he can be used in flashbacks for Avengers 3, which is plausible. I do have a feeling Cap will go out YOLO style though, if not in Cap 3 definitely Avengers 3.
MightyZeus
MightyZeus - 4/9/2014, 3:14 AM
Interesting theory but it does sound plausible. Whatever is coming up in the MCU i'm assuming it's going to be big and that basically it's going to be nothing that the audience has experienced before.

Great theory! Makes me believe Rogers will die a little more, but if he does they'll just bring him back like the comics with a new actor. Since I don't think they'll want to make a habit of that, they'd probably kill him off later on.

He'll sacrifice himself for the world in A3, then Bucky will take over as Cap in the future.
Abary
Abary - 4/9/2014, 5:05 AM
I think this is stretching it just a little bit, but considering how it ties up to the rumored plot of Captain America 3... it seem kind of plausible.

Either he does and Bucky takes over or he doesn't die and they recast
RoyRodgersMcFreely
RoyRodgersMcFreely - 4/9/2014, 5:28 AM
Seems plausible but marvel needs all the money makers they can get since they're losing RDJ. Evans even said in a recent interview that although he wants to focus on directing he may still work with marvel occasionally, aka he'll stick around. Bucky doesn't have to take over as cap in the MCU. The storyline of bringing cap back as it was in the comics would never work on screen.
NitPicker
NitPicker - 4/9/2014, 5:43 AM
Hell no to killing Captain America! Hell no to having Bucky take up the mantle of Captain America! So what if Chris Evans doesn't want to do it anymore. Just recast. People act as if Marvel Studios hasn't recasted anyone (Bruce Banner, James Rhodes, Fandral).

"Even Kevin said the roster is forever rotating and making room for other people. Y'all need to accept the inevitable."

Is killing characters the only way to make room for new characters? How about having the characters deal with their personal problems which prevents them from being with The Avengers. Have Thor stay in Asgard for awhile. Have Ironman deal with problems within Stark Industries. Have Cap deal with the return of The Red Skull. Have Black Widow keeping a low profile. That's an incredibly stupid reason to kill a character.

You know what I noticed? There are a hell of a lot of people who don't read comics that try WAY too hard to figure out a way for things to happen in the movies that they read about on Wikipedia.

It happened in 2012 when The Avengers came out. All the non comic book reading "fans" say things like:

"Spider-Man and Wolverine should be in this movie."
"How come Spider-Man and Wolverine aren't in this movie?"

How about you read 40 years worth of Avengers comics, then read 40 years worth of Spider-Man comics, then read 40 years worth of X-Men/Wolverine comics. Then you will see why Spider-Man and Wolverine aren't and shouldn't be in The Avengers movies. It seems like all these "fans" saw The Avengers then went home and got on their computers, looked at The Avengers Wikipedia page, searched for the words "Spider-Man" and "Wolverine", then said "See? Spiderman and Wolverine were Avengers in the comics." but didn't read anything else on the page. [frick]ing ridiculous.

And it's happening again in 2014. Now that Captain America: The Winter Soldier came out, all the "fans" looked up "The Winter Soldier" on Wikipedia and found out that Bucky eventually took Steve's place as Cap when he died. But they didn't bother to read about how different the characters are and how incredibly stupid it would be to have Bucky be Captain America permanently. [frick]ing ridiculous.

How about we all get a good grasp on the characters and stories in the comics before we start using them as a way to suggest things that should happen in the movies?

Thanks for the comments guys, the point of the article was to get people thinking which I believe was accomplished. Now everybody relax, I don't believe Chris Evans is gone forever as Cap, just that this may be a story line. He very well could restructure the deal and come back eventually. It has been a la RDJ, but I'm a firm believer that we will see Bucky's Cap in the near fututre

Captain America will be the first big name Avenger to buy the farm.

I'm fairly certain of that. They already have a character set up to take his place, as well as a story from the comics to mine. It only makes sense, especially with Evans talking about quitting the role in the near future.

It would be a good time to let Evans part ways, let Winter Soldier step in for a few movies, then they can even re-introduce Rogers with a different actor down the road.

Either way, I still think Cap will be the first big name to die. Widow and Hawkeye are the only other characters I can see them killing off first, although I hope they don't kill Boobs Widow. I kinda like her.
RedRider30
RedRider30 - 4/9/2014, 7:12 AM
@CorndogBurgler- yeah, I like boobs widow too
@Nitpicker- if they did recast Cap, who would you like to see replace Evans? Honestly the only plausible option is Channing Tatum
NitPicker
NitPicker - 4/9/2014, 7:22 AM
@RedRider30

I don't know. I don't really follow what goes on with Hollywood and actors. I had never heard of Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalow, Jeremy Renner or Tom Hiddleston until the Marvel movies came out.

The only movie I've ever seen Channing Tatum in is the first G.I.Joe movie. I didn't like that movie but he didn't have anything to do with my opinion of it. There are certain people I would immediately say no to. I wouldn't immediately say no to him. I just don't know.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anybody to cast as Cap. I'm glad I'm not in charge of this type of thing.

"How about you read 40 years worth of Avengers comics"

You really expect this?

The boobs thing is just...I dunno, I guess I forget how many teenagers frequent this site, despite the constant reminders. Yes, women have breasts. I know it's exciting and it's difficult to not point them out for some.

"Killing" Captain America and then bringing him back is cheap. It was also already done with Nick Fury. And Coulson. Doing it with one of the main characters is something that will not trick even the least comics-savvy audience member. It's also something that will not go over too well with any kids in the audience, and I can't imagine Marvel being interested in alienating audience members of all ages by killing off one of the main characters.

Lastly, just because something happens in the comics means NOTHING about the movies. How many times has Marvel made a movie that was 100% like the comics? Never. There's a lot of adapting here and there, but ultimately every single one of their movies STILL does its own thing with the plot most of the time.
RoyRodgersMcFreely
RoyRodgersMcFreely - 4/9/2014, 7:40 AM
Why kill him off only to bring him back with a new actor later? That'll just confuse people and look stupid. Bucky has a 9 picture deal which doesn't mean anything. And if nothing else they can do cameos or winter soldier films
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/9/2014, 7:49 AM
I'm not saying they SHOULD kill Cap. In my opinion, he has only STARTED to become the "living legend" with a commanding presence that he has in the comics.

All I'm saying is that it certainly looks like they may be setting that up.
NitPicker
NitPicker - 4/9/2014, 8:01 AM
@ruadh

No, I don't really expect that. My point is, that The Avengers have been around for 40 years without Spider-Man and Wolverine as members. But people like to point to the latest issue of The Avengers and say "See? Spider-Man and Wolverine are Avengers."
ruadh
ruadh - 4/9/2014, 8:05 AM
@RoyRodgersMcFreely

Completely agree. It'll confuse, and also the 9 picture deal doesn't mean Steve is being killed off. I also totally agree about the cameo stuff. I think what makes Bucky incredibly interesting has absolutely NOTHING to do with what makes Cap interesting.

Again, Evans has broken through as being the first non-Downey actor to make Downey-esque box office for Marvel. Of course they'll try to hold on to him a bit longer if they can, like they did with Downey.

Just ask George Lazenby how well it goes over being the first replacement for an actor in a beloved role.

And besides all that, Marvel is clearly trying to steer towards new characters, like the GOTG and Strange. They may not be all that interested in doing Cap 5 with actor X.

@Nitpicker

Well...they are. In fact, Spider-Man has been an Avenger FAR longer than Hulk.

Besides all that, continuity in the comics doesn't matter at all when you're simply a fan who wants to see Iron Man and Cap fighting alongside people like Spider-Man and Wolverine on the big screen.
ruadh
ruadh - 4/9/2014, 8:13 AM
@QuestiontheAnswer

To be fair, that makes little difference. Whedon knew before he even started the script for Avengers that he wanted Ultron to be in the second one, IF he did the second one. When writing these kinda movies, or really almost any kind of movie, it's completely normal to be thinking ahead and speculating what story could come later.

"Evans deal is up after Avengers 3, and he said after he finished his contract he wants to leave acting."

He actually DIDN'T say that, and even did an interview recently explaining that he didn't say that at all. He wants to get more into directing, but made it clear he's not quitting acting.

And again, contracts can be renegotiated.

Ruadh. The D is silent.

You aren't raining on anything. I don't really see how he's right and I'm wrong. I also never claimed Hulk was never a member, or wasn't a founding member. I'm completely aware. But he left VERY early, and Spider-Man was a member for years. Hence, Spider-Man has been an Avenger much longer. Please explain how that's inaccurate.

Either way, they ARE Avengers, so the apparently comic-ignorant people who want to see him and Wolverine aren't wrong.
