*WARNING: CONTAINS Captain America: The Winter Soldier SPOILERS*
Last weekend, like most of you (hopfully all), had the pleasure of watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Also like most of you (hopefully all), I am an Easter Egg FIEND and TWS was dripping Easter eggy goodness: Dr. Strange Reference, Sharon Carter, Matthew Brodrick (It was Wargames, not Saw, and shame on you for thinking otherwise), Crossbones (duh), the Twins (BAMFS), and, my personal favorite, a shout out to Pulp Fiction.
Then there was this:
If you didnt see it, it's probably because it was on the screen for roughly half a second in the first scene (much like The Infinity Gautlet). After Cap and Falcon bro out over some Marvin Gaye, Black Widow drives up in her sexy 2014 Corvette Stingray. She sexily sasses Cap, he gets in the car, and she sexily speeds away. Now, I am well aware that DC liscence plates use the standard XX=XXXX as seen here.
But the standard DC plate uses only numbers in the last four spots so to the nay sayers I say: your probably right, but humor me.
Now, 1Y=R31I could mean a number of things, or nothing at all. Hell, it could be a nod to Inhumans or somthing considering R31I relates to a DNA marker, or it could be somthing with Ant-Man, assuming 1Y means one year in our time, but I doubt it.
Now... my theory. If 1Y means one year and is not referenceing Ant-Man, then 1Y could be one year in the MCU which could put it cronologically around Cap 3 and Avengers: To Infinity and Beyond (gonna play around with a few titles). Which would bring us in the realm of The Mad Titan Thanos (its important, I'll come back to that). Now here is the suuuuuuper streachy part, My interpertation of R31I is somthing along the lines of "Read 31st issue" or "Recent 31st Issue", somthing having to do with an Issue 31. Well, in the many volumes of Captain America there are a few Captain America 31s including a story about Sharon becoming the Shield Director, somthing about snakes, and a mildly racist issue where Cap and Buck kill a bunch of Japanese (seriously, google it, its kinda hilarious). But there was one that caught my attention.
This issue is beginning of Act 2 of the Death of Captain America story Arc. Now if your not familiar with this Arc then google it (I'm not going to hold your hand, most of you (sadly, probably all) are adults), but the arc includes heavy appearances by Sharon Carter, Falcon, Black Widow, Crossbones, Buck, Baron Zemo and the FREAKING RED SKULL (love that guy), all of which are established in the MCU and have contracts to fulfill (except for Zemo, so replace Zemo with Von Strucker and boom, problem solved. So, this is how I think it will go Cap 3, whatever the main story is, will most likely end with the death of Steve Rogers by the hands of *SPOILER* a brain washed Sharon Carter, seeing as the Baron has the mind gem and all, basically a modified Act 1 of the Death of Steve Rogers. And the beginning of The Avengers: Will Make More than DC will start off with this, issue 31, volume 5, as the Cap arc. Because Thanos wont get in the fight unless he has to (or is bored), he will send someone to act as his Liaison, enter the Red Skull. That is what I belive might be the Mid-Credits scene for Cap 3. When Red Skull gets slurped up by the
Cosmic Cube Tesseract, he had to end up somewhere, well as we saw in the Avengers, other side of the "door" is not Random, so where would he end up? Well with the current owner of the Mind Gem at this time, Thanos. So in The Avengers: Wait Where the F*** is Wolverine, the Cap Arc will be about Bucky struggling to accept the mantle of Cap, ultimately accepting his role just in time for the final battle with Thanos and Red Skull.
There it is, and I know what your thinking, "Chris Evans has a 6 picture deal." Well, how is Bucky, a now former assasin and nobodys best friend, going to deal with losing his childhood friend and having to replace him with noone to talk too? Internally... or more specifically FLASHBACKS. Chris Evans can fulfill his contract and not even be "in" the movie. On a side note, Thank you Chris it'll be sad to see you go but you ARE Steve Rogers.
Well there it is, don't like it? Don't care, you read it anyway. But if you have any thoughts, good or bad, make sure to rant in the comments.
Oh... and regarding Sebastian Stan's 9 picture deal...
can't wait.
