Another movie you’re in is The Avengers...

I was in Albuquerque two days ago. There’s almost nothing I can say, except that it’s the funnest ensemble movie in the history of the planet, and that Joss Whedon is God.

Who has the most believable superhero bod?

I don’t know why, but anytime you say ‘bod,’ I just have to say it’s got to be Scarlett Johansson. That’s a superhero bod. It’s a super bod, it’s a superhero bod. Agent Romanoff is the last person you want to mess with, but if there is a close second it has to be the Hulk.

You wouldn’t want to get in a fight with either of them?

If the Hulk was mad at me, or Agent Coulson, there are a number of people I would think of calling, but I would definitely call Agent Romanoff first.

Are you fitting this in between shooting? Are you shooting more on Avengers?

Shhhhh. No, I’m not. I’m not completely wrapped on The Avengers. I have some more work in Ohio, but I’m definitely wrapped in Albuquerque.

Will we see you next week then?

Are you going to be in Albuquerque next week?

No, we’ll all be in San Diego next week.

Oh…. It’s possible. You’re talking about the Con. There may be a S.H.I.E.L.D. presence at the Con.

There are so many great people on that film. When you aren’t shooting, what’s it like between takes with everyone?

You know, it’s kind of bizarre to be in a comic book movie and a superhero movie, and to look across and… first of all, to walk in and try and have a serious conversation with a bunch of people with giant muscles, some real, some not, in neoprene, and they look very much like the people you’ve been reading in comics. It’s hard to keep a straight face. On the other hand, to see those people and have it be Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner or Sam Jackson, a lot of Academy Award nominations out there. That’s kind of remarkable. Unfortunately, a lot of times, very few of us were there at the same time. There was one or two weekends, when everybody was there, and there were some hilarious ‘Avengers assemble’ texts that went out, with the location of Avengers assemble being some very rowdy Albuquerque nightclubs.

TGIFridays.

Pretty much. The English actor, Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, his line was, (in a fake English accent) ‘I went to this marvelous place called Chilli’s here in Albuquerque.’ We’re like listen Tom...

What about your own superhero spinoff flick?

You know, I certainly think it’s a great idea. I’m just trying to get the Marvel guys as excited about it as I am. They seem to be weirdly more open to it. There’s more talk about seeing Agent Coulson in some other mediums, lately, and I’m open to the idea.

I think that he should stay as a recurring character in the universe, but not have his own movie.

I don't know about his own spinoff... but I DO want to see him in all the MCU movies. I like that he's knows them all.

There are some other great tidbits from the article, including "Avengers Assemble" texts with instructions to "assemble" at night clubs and Tom Hiddleston thinking Chilis is quality dining. Oh to have been on set!

HE'S NOT EVEN IN THE MARVEL MAINSTREAM COMIC BOOKS...COULSON IS A CHARACTER CREATED FOR THE MOVIE..IF YOU EVER DID A SPIN OFF I DONT THINK IT WOULD WORK UNLESS YOU GAVE HIM A NEW ALIAS ..SUPER POWER OR SOMETHING. IF YOU HAD TO THOUGH I MIGHT GO WITH: AGENT COULSON OF SHIELD ON A MISSION TO SEEK OUT NEW SHIELD OPERATIVES LOCATES SUPERHUMANS, FINDING THE GOOD ONES AND TRYING TO STOP THE BAD ONES ALONG THE WAY..IT COULD BE A FOR TV THING AND THIS COULD BE A WAY TO OPEN UP A ROUTINE CAMEO APPEARANCE OF ALL THE MARVEL CHARACTERS..IMAGINE HIM MEETING CLOAK AN DAGGER FIGHTING DRUG LORDS OR IRON FIST AGAINST AN ARMY OF UNDERWORLD NINJA,OR LUKE CAGE..OR EVEN GO SUPERNATURAL TRACKING DOWN MORBIUS OR WORKING WITH HANK PYM(MAYBE WE COULD GET FILLION FOR A CAMEO ROLE) WHO KNOWS..A SHOW THAT COULD BE MARVELS WINDOW...

Funny how he said he'd call Agent Romanoff if he had a Hulk problem. I think I remember hearing that Black Widow and Bruce Banner have a relationship in The Avengers.
Jennn
Jennn - 7/17/2011, 7:23 PM
@comicscommando that's because in the few leaked pages of the script there's a scene where Natasha is trying to calm Bruce down so that he won't turn into the Hulk. I think people inferred from that.

I KNOW?!? We dont want an Agent Coulson movie! I feel they should have a SHIELD movie with Coulson, Widow, Hawkeye, Fury (& perhaps throw in Hill too...) THAT would be good. Not a standalone one for ANY of them. Well maybe for Widow but no one else!

You guys are too negative about the dude and the actor in general. Coulson could work for the small screen as a go-to guy for the mainstream heroes... sort of a behind the scenes secret agent man if Marvel does indeed plan on bringing some of the more lesser known heroes into the small screen... I could see him being a recurring character in the new Incredible Hulk tv series that is being planned as one of the guys chasing Banner as much as helping him by trying to keep the Hulk away from the bad guys that want to use him for their own ends by running interference.
