Joss Whedon Doesn't Rule Out Some Contribution To AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Movies
Although he's not returning to the director's chair after Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon now admits he'd "love" to helm Infinity War, and even implies he'd still contribute to a certain extent. Check it out!
Joss Whedon might not be in the director's chair when Earth's Mightiest Heroes re-assemble against the mad titan Thanos in the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, but the Age of Ultron writer-director tells Vulture that Marvel Studios initially approached him to pen the script(s). “They came to me about the movie, and what I said was, 'I'm tapped out'” Whedon explained. “And I think they knew that even if I could give them something, it wasn't going to be anytime soon.” However, the filmmaker admits that he does not rule out some sort of writing contribution to the Phase 3 event. “I love this place and these guys, and I can't imagine not sitting down and talking about the movies with them, but whether or not that's an official thing, I don't know,” he said.
With Joss Whedon out, Marvel Studios has recruited the Captain America: The Winter Soldier creative team — sibling directors Anthony & Joe Russo with screenwriters Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely — to tackle the Avengers: Infinity War. However, considering the two-parter will likely make use of Marvel's newest Phase 3 superheroes including Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel, Joss Whedon reiterated he'd contribute to the movie(s) in a writing capacity.
When asked if he would regret not getting to write an Avengers: Infinity War scene in which the likes of Iron Man and Star-Lord cross paths, Joss Whedon asked, “Oh, buddy, are you kidding?”
He continued, “I'm angry about scenes between people in my movies that I didn't get to write! No, there's a huge part of me that would love to do Infinity War. I mean, come on, it would just be so glorious. But that would be four years of my life... after which, I would be 20 years older.”
Anyhow, with both “distinct” movies set to shoot back-to-back, Avengers: Infinity War - Part I will open in theaters on May 4, 2018, while Part II will be released on May 3, 2019. What do you think?
