Kevin Feige Considered Front Runner For Disney Top Gig, Where Does That Leave Marvel?

Rich Ross has reportedly resigned[some say fired] from his post as Chairman of Walt Disney Studios and Marvel Studios' President of Production Kevin Feige is the front runner to replace him.

The Avengers

Disney, as the owner of Marvel could very well pluck Feige from Marvel's film branch and place him in the top spot to oversee what movies are green-lit from Marvel, Dreamworks, Pixar and Disney. While that could potentially mean more Marvel movies per year with someone like Feige calling the shots, it also means that someone new will have to step into Feige's shoes. And while many would attribute the MCU's success to Jon Favreau and the first Iron Man movie, make no mistake, it was Feige behind the scenes, mandating certain story elements be included that has led us to The Avengers promise land.

Of course the question here is that if Disney asks, can Feige really say no? Can Feige risk any lingering bad feelings from Disney towards Marvel by turning down the job? And if he does ultimately move up, who then takes the reigns and guides the MCU onward towards Avengers 2? You're kidding yourself if you think Feige can run both Disney and Marvel. If this does come to pass, my personal pick would be Joss Whedon, someone who has worked in both television and film, now has a great relationship with Marvel thanks to The Avengers and has just as much (if not more) love for comic books as Feige.

Variety reports that Feige's "close eye on overhead and production costs through long-term deals with actors and tax breaks" are all aspects that Disney CEO Bob Iger covets.

Other potential candidates include Dreamworks CEO Stacey Snider and producer Joe Roth who previously ran Disney Studios from 1994-2000. Also in the mix are producers Sean Bailey, Mary Parent and Scot Stuber.

he would be stupid to say no as long as he can contribute to marvel films as well as he has been doing for so long

Cost Controled + Still Good Movies = $$$

I wouldn't be surprised.

@RamonSuarez: I can't see Sony selling back Spidey for anything short of a ridiculously, nauseatingly huge amount, if at all. They're staking pretty much their whole film branch on him, to sell him back to Disney/Marvel would doom it, and they're already struggling as it is.

As far as Feige as head of Disney: Makes perfect sense, plus it's great news for people who like Marvel movies. Feige actually is a huge comic book nerd, if he's calling the shots we'll see Marvel properties greenlit left and right.

Pray that Feige stays at Marvel Studios because that would mean we would have to promote Jeph Loeb, who's like the #2 guy at Marvel Studios and NO ONE wantd him in charge.

I can't see Whedon being too tempted by that role - he's a writer and creator at heart and even though he's also a producer, I just think this would see him leaving what he's best at behind.
And I think he knows this, too.

Bad feelings? Why would there be bad feelings if someone feels they can be more effective in their current position. Most corporations would appreciate that as opposed to being upset by it.

Poor Ross.

I really feel bad that Disney's incompetence when it came to marketing John Carter led to this, but I think Kevin Feige has the right mix of aggression and vision to make it rain on Disney.

@JKM Of course they wouldn't fire him. But when can you ever really tell your boss no? Even if it's a promotion. Things would definitely get weird between the two. Especially knowing that if Feige turns it down and someone else jumps in, they do their job knowing that Feige was always first choice.

There's no way he would say no... Nobody gets to Feige's position and then says "Yeah, this is far enough." You have to have drive to get as far as he has, and running a major studio is the top slot in the business. You don't pass that up.

As for replacing him, I don't really know. I pray to god they don't even consider any of the comic names... Quesada, Bendis, Loeb. Just... no. It really shouldn't be a director, because I'd rather those people kept on directing rather than being an exec.

If Feige was granted more power he may try to reacquire some of the properties outside of Marvel like Spidey, FF and X-Men so that they can be done right.

If it leaves Marvel with a successor who knows enough to hire the right creative people and then Stay The FL|CK Out Of Their Ways it could leave them in a better position then they are in now..

It happens every day in corporate America. It is not as big of a deal as some may make it out to be.

If this scenario DOES come to pass (Fiege as Disney Chairman and Joss as Marvel Film Head)....

Then we will ALL be living, literally, in the Marvel Universe.

Brilliant suggestion! Never crossed my mind. Joss Whedon would make an excellent replacement. Disney needs Kevin Feige's mind (and money?) involved in all of their projects. Joss Whedon knows how to work epic scale, large fanbase TV series without getting stale. He'll keep the MCU running for years. Each phase would be like writing a season arc.

If Marvel gets Fantastic Four back, it'll definitely be a Disney controlled project.

This has my spider senses tingling, and not in a good way. :P

What worries me is if he becomes the new CEO of Disney, who will replace him at Marvel?

I would feel a lot better if he stayed with his current job.
