Robert Downey Jr. Briefly Discusses THE AVENGERS Experience And Concern!

Make the jump for a recent short video interview with The Avengers actor Robert Downey Jr. as he elaborates on a main concern filming group scenes and overall experience!

During the Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows press junket, Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. was expectedly asked about his reprisal in Marvel's superhero extravaganza, The Avengers. Essentially discussing the ensemble aspect of the movie, and a certain concern while filming scenes together costumed, watch the brief interview below, via Comic Continuum.

"First of all, you just hope that the costumes look right. Otherwise, it's going to almost be like a comedy of errors where you just go, 'Oh no, we've made a terrible dreadful mistake.' But I think Joss Whedon was the right guy to direct this and everyone has demonstrated outside of The Avengers that they can carry a picture. We have some new folks, obviously, with Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston ect. So, it's a strong team."

Considering these wide variety of heroes have only been seen assembled in cartoons, animations and the source material, their live-action assembly, visually, was a main concern of mine like Downey suggests. Thankfully, judging from the little group shots throughout the trailer, I think it's safe to say Joss Whedon and the team have nailed it. Of course, we won't know how the entire looks together until the film releases; or possibly in the 2nd trailer, expected to hit in January. What do you think?

Marvel's The Avengers is the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner with Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel's The Avengers will be released May 4, 2012.

RDJr is upfront and honest. Gotta love that guy.

I think the costumes will look great in the movie ( Yes, I even think Cap's costume will look better in the movie than it did in the photos)

Joss Whedon was the right choice as director.

Listen up peeps. I was an extra in Avengers and if a costume looks good in broad day light and in person it should be fine with lighting and good camera choices.
The ONLY thing wrong with Cap's Avenger costume is you cant see his ears. The closer they get to the comics the better! The only thing wrong with the USO costume was the fabrics they went with. Design wise I think that suit wasnt as bad as they intended it to be!!! anyone??? :) Hawkeye on the other hand makes me SAD

I should clarify. The helmet looks dumb as hell. The actual Cap costume looks like a spandex get up. It looks like theres no texture there. Hopefully it looks better onscreen.

This is gonna be some over-saturated film with cheesy lines and tons of explosions with no substance. I hope I'm wrong but I have seen NOTHING to convince me. I mean even in The Dark Knight Rises we know who the villain is and people are stoked but we dont know who this alien race is the Avengers are fightin and may not find out till the last minute. I swear if it's the frost giants, im walkin out the theater.

too bad none of them will wear their respected mask/helmet for longer than 15 minutes. typical hollywood. when battle gets heavy they always find a way to give the actors more screen time.

NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 12/9/2011, 1:25 AM
@RadicalDuck No, you're not. The helmet looks dumb and I know the blue looks kinda candy, toyish; but I give full props for a translation that devoted to the comicbook costume. People bitch all day about things not being like the comics and for the most part,they got Cap "right".

But I can understand why someone would think it looks like a shit power rangers training suit. I happen to dig it... without the helmet.

@NextHero08

Well, hello there Nolan fanboy.

It's interesting how easy it is to pick out the people who actually care whether or not the film will be good or not among those who really don't care because they feel it inferior to *another* property.

Because these same individuals don't take the time to understand the politics going on behind the scenes, between competing studios with rights to certain properties belonging within the same universe, making it impossible or maybe even a benefit to keeping the the villains under wraps.

You know, instead of saturating our minds with the obvious *cough*BANE*cough* to the point where we're absolutely not surprised at all about what happens in the film.

Ugh...Nolan!Batman fans really piss me off. Because I remember back in 2005, when Batman Begins came out and no one gave a sh*t.

Seriously.

I've been a Batman fan longer than I've been able to do simple mathematics, and I was so thrilled to see a moodier adaptation of the comics, sitting in a theatre jam-packed...with six other people.

Then The Dark Knight comes along and suddenly "OMFG THIS IS THE BEST COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVER! Nothing can top this, not even theoretically, because NOLAN IS AWESOME! OMG! Nevermind the source material for any other comic!"

When, in actuality, it was Heath Ledger's performance that was BOSS. Not necessarily the film itself.

Batman is the new Chuck Norris to these kind of people, and it's annoying.

Anyway, how the hell is knowing who the villain is going to convince you how good a film is?

And there was some pretty contrite lines in the Dark Knight... AND loads of explosions.

And Bane and Catwoman's costumes? Look like sh*t too, my friend.

SotNatt - 12/9/2011, 2:25 AM
@mothman Okay, OTHER Nolan fanboy.

Look, I wouldn't care if TDKR nuked The Avengers at the box office next year. I freaking love Batman, and the longer the fanfair for that entity is kept alive, the better for the Batman franchise and the comic book community as a whole.

What drive's me up a wall is pisshead Batman film fans who have their heads stuck up their asses, because they've got a woody for the Nolan!Batman universe, and they haven't been able to shake it for the last four years now. (Please, consult your local physician about this problem.)

To ASSUME that one film is going to be better than the other for reasons beyond your knowledge yet is retarded, is all I'm saying, especially when regaling on a four-year-old film that had certain factors working in its favour at that time.

The BIGGEST one being Heath Ledger and the tone his performance brought to The Dark Knight.

@EmpressSkeith

Thank you man, complete truth what you said my friend.
Its funny that these Nolanites come in on an Avengers artice, and they start bashing the hell out of the movie......without any substance. They keep saying the same thing...kiddy movie...too much cgi...come on, how else are you going to make a movie with a 9 foot green rage beast and high tech man in a suit of armor.
They have no substance AT ALL. Make themselves look like fools

Cap's suit looks inside out and cheap.His helmet is awful.Still don't like Thor's half costume (fine on the top half,lazy on the bottom).Ironman looks cool.Widow:boring.Hawkeye:same.Yup,the costumes are on the whole,shitty.
Oh!Forgot Loki!Now he is looking baddass! :)

^^^To be fair,the Marvel boys are just as bad!
I'm looking forward to both for completely different reasons...
TDKR for a well made piece of movie making.A piece of motion picture art.
The Avenger for a good time and lots of ridiculous set pieces punctuated with gags.
Both are gonna be great (I hope).But two different beasties!

My first thoughts for The Avengers (or any team up movie for that matter) is how dumb the cast would look - all together in one frame - all those designs and colors. There was (made-for-TV?) JLA movie a while back now (and yes it stank) but before any of the characters got to speak I was ILL laughing at how bad they all looked together on screen. Obviously they've made an effort to 'integrate' the team visually - costume wise. But Cappy's costume looks too clean, and plastic. Ironic, since the WW2 costume looked brilliant - grubby, functional, and possible. If they screw the pooch visually - no one will be listening to hear if the dialogue or acting is any good. Fingers crossed.

captain america costume is fine,just wait to you see it on film,he'll probably end up losing the mask anyway.

why do you think they gave us during the heroic age captain america director of shield without a mask? because they wanted us to be use to seeing captain america without a mask on film,it'll be easier to accept.
