Screenwriter Zak Penn co-wrote Steve Spielberg's Ready Player One and is currently working on expanding the world of The Matrix but could we see him return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the not too distant future? Asked recently if that's going to happen, The Incredible Hulk scribe indicated that a return could be on the cards but failed to elaborate on what exactly that might entail.
"I think I’m probably gonna come back," he revealed, before adding: "I think I’m gonna do one more Marvel, one more project in the Marvel Universe. I’m about to start doing, but…I have to check and see if I’m allowed to say what it is. For the most part I had a long run on comic book movies and I was kind of eager to, you know, just cause it can be really crushing, you know, at times..."
It is, of course, possible that Penn is referring to another Marvel movie outside of the MCU. After all, Fox is greenlighting pretty much every X-Men spinoff they can think of before the Disney deal can go through and Sony also has a lot of Spider-Man related movies in the works (minus the wall-crawler).
Penn wrote the screenplay for The Incredible Hulk but star Edward Norton later took over and rewrote scenes during production. He also worked on The Avengers but when Joss Whedon was hired to direct, he ditched the writer's screenplay and pretty much started from scratch.
