Personally I think Riddler needs to be Brian Stephanek

I got to be in a movie opposite him a yr and a half ago. We talked and I was like you would be great as the riddler he said he would love for someone to ask him itd be great. He use to be riddler in the on star commercials. He is a FANTASTIC actor : ]

Quite an unorthodox idea.

After Nolan cast out of left field for the Joker, I can see him doing the same with the Riddler, should he be included in Batman 3 of course.

But damn, Serkis is incredibly interesting as a Riddler choice. I'd be absolutely down with him.

I think he would own the part.

The guy is an amazing actor thats for sure and I'm sure he'd do an amazing job in the role! If anyone has played the PS3 game, Heavenly Sword in which he provided voice and motion work the I'm sure you'll agree that he can play a psychotic villain brilliantly! :)

I'd also like to see him play Scarecrow as I said a while back in my Arkham Asylum fan cast!

There are a lot of people who could be great Riddlers.

David Tennant
Jude Law
Casey Affleck
Paul Bettany
Guy Pearce
Ryan Gosling
Hugh Laurie
Ewan McGregor

To name a few :)

how can you go from the joker to the riddler??? the riddler is a weak villian IMO, and could not top heaths joker in tdk, i hope nolan isnt concidering him for b3.

Andy Serkis would make a very interesting Riddler and I can totally see it working for Nolan's Unievsre, the obsessesive compulsive genius would work with him...

ErikBauer - 1/8/2010, 5:51 AM
The riddler should be done by Paul Bettany.

Serkis would do a good Man-Bat or maybe Bane with the help of a lot of CGI of course...

The dude is way too funky lookin' to be Riddler. I'd say Depp or possibly James McAvoy for Riddler. Serkis could probably play a good Ventriloquist, though.

Andy Serkis gets a lot more credit than he deserves.
It's not like LOTR was shot like Avatar, with a new type of CGI camera that sits on the actor's face to capture expressions, etc.
If anything, it's the animators that deserve the lion's share of the credit for Gollum, and ESPECIALLY for King Kong. Not only did they animate Kong to move like a real gorilla (which Serkis in CGI spandex did NOT - based on the DVD extra footage) but if anything, they modelled Kong's facial expressions from Lee Majors (Six Million Dollar Man, Fall Guy). That's right. Watch King Kong again, and tell me that face isn't Lee Majors.

personally, i want to see someone other than the villians already portrayed on tv or film.
like The Ventriloquist and Scarface.
or The Mad Hatter.
They're darker characters, with still a comic book since of villiany, and can still have a realistic twist.
ex. The Mad Hatter could be involved in the "Alices in Wonderland" operation, where as the woman (alices), could be sold as slaves (like Taken).
and
The Ventriloquist and Scarface, could be done like straight out of the comic books. except i don't fully feel he is a character that could carry a movie that follows The Dark Knight.
Although already done, I do believe with Rachel Dawes deceased, now would be a good time to throw in the tweener character Selena Kyle (Catwoman) and allow her to the be catalyst in this Batman film and maybe the next one following.
As far as actors for these characters...established actors are always great to consider, but I believe Nolan only picks who HE feels will do the best job. Remember the mixed reactions to Heath Ledger as Joker?
But again, these are just a few thoughts...

I like the Johnny Depp idea, but what about David Hyde Pierce (the guy who played Niles on Frasier.) Or Paul Bettany from A Knight's Tale.

Guys and Gals.

David Tennet.

He goes from laughter to maniacal in so many episodes of Dr. Who. Right size, quirks and would still be a relatively unknown to major movie audiences-plus it breaks him in to American films.

I'd rather see Serkis as Riddler than Depp. With Serkis, you get a certain level of quasi-anonymity that allows the character to be more convincing. With Depp, you hear Depp, you see Depp, you watch Depp... and no matter how well he performs, you don't end up seeing The Riddler. Depp's too big, now.

Choosing the villian is about portaying the villian's effect on the hero's life, emotionally, intellectually, etc. Most of the Batman villians have only temporal relationships to Batman, i.e., they're just villians who have a strength he has to match or counter.

Black Mask is an interesting idea.

I know most folks are against a Catwoman story but I would look forward to the kind of good story Nolan can deliver. That being said, I agree that rehashing the old favorites can be more than a little tired.

Killer Croc, Clayface, Man-Bat, et al, are great characters for a comic book but for something that's supposed to feel like real life they make no sense. Scarecrow's hallucinogen was believable because related substances exist. We do not, however, have human-articulated mutant monsters in reality. Nolan's going for reality.

Obviously they're not going to go with Clayface or Killer Croc.. They're going for realism in these movies and, while they have the technology for the characters, they just don't fit in this franchise.

I say bring back Two-Face. And if they're going to do the Riddler, I'm almost leaning towards the hype for Depp playing him is already too much and they should go with someone else. I like Paul Bettany for it. Also someone suggested the guy from the Dex commercials, he'd be awesome. I'm also not opposed to Andy Serkis playing him either.

Id personally like to see Matthew Lillard aka Shaggy. He is a pretty funny actor and can play some serious roles.
