Backstage is reporting that principle photography on the third chapter of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy will commence in April in New Orleans, Louisiana. The reason the decision was made to shoot there is that the state offered substantial tax incentives.

Also noted is that Sony's Spider-Man reboot will be before the cameras next month, while Joss Whedon's The Avengers is supposed to start shooting in February (assuming budget issues are worked out).

Finally, according to Backstage, despite a rumored 2012 start, George Miller's Max Max: Fury Road will begin shooting during the summer of 2011.

It is seriously SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ridiculous that they are filming Bat 3 in LA. Chicago = Gotham City!

@LP4 -Apparantly they are screentesting this month and next month and probably January, if they still haven't found their Superman.
So, they are filming Dark Knight Rises in New Orleans for tax reasons, like Green Lantern. Not because of Killer Croc. The villian will be Anarky. And, hopefully Dr. Death and Black Mask.
"Death to Dr. Death".

Obviously Man of Steel has to get underway relatively soon, simply because they absolutely have to be in theatres by the end of 2012. Considering Superman Returns went through 10 years of development hell, having their backs against the wall and having to dive in could possibly result in something really creative and exciting rather than over-thinking it to death.

Just basing it on that report.

In the case of Superman, there were actually so many false starts where the film seemed likely to go, people were brought on and paid and then it all collapsed again. Actually (unless I'm misremembering -- always a distinct possibility) I think the thing geared up a few times and then went back into development hell, until Superman returns.

And I think the lesson learned by Superman Returns is the same one that Star Trek: The Motion Picture did. Look at what happened with Wrath of Khan. They figured out how NOT to make a Star Trek movie, and I would bet the same thing will happen with Man of Steel.

if you guys think that just because B3 is "based" out of new orleans that they will not be juxtaposing the footage onto a chicago skyline, or setting, then you must have had your heads up your butts for some time now... chances are you will only get generic warehouse scenes, or the like, directly filmed there!... Nolan has it, its gonna be a winner, end of story.!!... but please, for the love of god, and everything that is good and holy, please do not give us another catwoman story... i will quit comics all together

Trollhunter, most of Batman Begins was filmed in London, yet Chicago still served as the skyline. My guess is that Gotham is NOT going to look like Louisiana - they'll still use Chicago exteriors and simply use soundstages for set work in Louisiana.

2012 may out-do 2011 for CBMs. Great couple years coming up regardless.

And I'm with mainstream, no big deal on the filming locale, when the camera isn't paned out to show the skyline it doesn't really matter where they film.

It' gonna be Anarky, KalEl84.
But I heard Goyer chatting about Hugo Strange being a good psychological foe for Batman, when he was getting the story together for Dark Knight Rises, so it could be Hugo Strange aswell/instead.
Combined with the fact that the name, "Dark Knight Rises" is very close to the name "Dark Moon Rising", (the comic by Matt Wagner that has Hugo Strange as a villian along with The Monk) and the rumour that Julie Madison will be the love interest in the film (And she was the love interest in Dark Moon Rising along with the original golden age comics that Dark Moon Rising is based upon) it looks very apparent and very likely that Hugo Strange might be the villian of the film and we may even see The Monk.
