DC’s NEW AGE OF HEROES SHOWCASE and an appeal to the public to help prevent books I like from being cancelled!

I showcase DC comic’s new comic initiative to create original characters out of Dark Knights Metel and help to educate anyone wondering what exactly the New Age of Heroes is!

DC comics The New Age of Heroes, if you haven’t yet heard of it, is a new initiative by DC comics to create all new heroes for their comic reading audience. Each of these books have a connection to DC event Dark Knights Metal, which serves as the beginning and the connection to the wider DC universe of each book.

As part of this they’ve put out 8 all new books that include Sideways, The Terrifics, Silencer, and more. I love the ideas DC is creating new heroes and I am a fan of several of these, including Curse of Brimstone in particular.

In total, the series are:

-Sideways

-Damage

-Silencer

-The Terrifics

-The Immortal Men

-The New Challengers

-The Unexpected

-The Curse of Brimstone

Each of these series are made up of brand new creations from great DC writers and artists. It’s not often DC or Marvel will begin a series based on an entirely new and unproven idea, and supporting these books are a way to tell them to continue creating new characters and new concepts. But recently, after only six issues, due to a lack of interest and sales, The Immortal Men was cancelled! New Challengers has been changed from an ongoing to a miniseries!

There are a lot of great and original ideas here, and it’s a shame to see them go, as I know for a fact that these series have many fans, but also many people who due to a lack of knowledge are not even aware the New Age Of Heroes is a thing.

So, in order to prevent other series, such as Curse of Brimstone, which I enjoy reading and don’t want to get cancelled, from being cancelled, I’m going to showcase the books:

Silencer

The Silencer, basically, is about a former assassin, now retired and a wife and mother, being offered a new mission by her former employer Talia Al Ghul. Out of all the series, this one has been the best reviewed. I think it’s really cool. Would recommend.

Damage

Damage is about a government agent who has to go on the run after being cursed to turn into a living weapon of mass destruction for one hour every 24 hours. This series is known for its issue long brawls and numerous guest appearances from other heroes like Wonder Woman.

Cool right?

If you like awesome fights that last almost entire issues with huge splash pages, as well as the fugitive era of The Incredible Hulk comics, you’ll like this too.

Sideways

Sideways is an ordinary high school student who gained the ability to travel through dimensional rifts. If you want a mashup between classic Spider-Man and dimension hopping adventure, here’s this comic!

The Terrifics

This is the only dc new age of heroes series that’s actually about previously existing characters. It’s Plastic Man, Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho, and Phantom Girl as what is basically DC’s fantastic four. It’s awesome. It’s er-terrific. It has the best sales of the line actually, so this one is unlikely to get cancelled.  But the reason it has the best sales is because of how terrific(did it again) it is!

Curse of Brimstone

This is the story of a kid in a dying small American town all the work has left making a deal with a mysterious salesman to save his town. He gets demonic powers, horrible mistakes are made, and as with most demonic deals, it goes horribly wrong. The kid and his sister now have to travel the country in a car they stole from the salesman and prevent him from doing the same thing he did to their town to other towns. It’s like Supernatural meets Ghost Rider with really cool art. Like, REALLY COOL art.

It’s really cool art.

The Immortal Men

This series explores the secret and hidden history of the dc universe and goes into the tribes mentioned in Dark Knights: Metal. It explores the two tribes and their attempts to protect humanity. The Batman who laughs is in issue three:

Yep, that guy. He is terrifying isn’t he? Sadly, this book has been cancelled due to lack of interest. But, you can still pick up the one volume trade when it comes out!

The Unexpected

The unexpected are heroes looking for redemption for past mistakes. The main theme seems to be discovery. It has an almost Grant Morrison type of feel to it. Imagine a cross between Seven Samurai and The Dark Tower. If you like those, you might like this!

The New Challengers

This is a modernization of the original Jack Kirby concept Challengers of the Unknown. Imagine it as Challengers of the Unknown: The Next Generation.

It’s a miniseries, not a full series. The basic premise is that people are plucked from time at the moment right before they die and forced to become New Challengers of the unknown, with a set time limit for each mission. If that sounds interesting, read it.

And there they all are. So, if you like any of these concepts, go out and buy them for the low price of 2.99. Which is, just so you know, less expensive than most other dc books. Try it out, see if you like the one you pick, and if you don’t, there are a variety of other options. Now I understand, it’s difficult to buy a comic if it’s a new concept. If your a Green Lantern fan, you know for a fact your comic will never be cancelled, ever! But if you see a lesser known book, you might hesitate to get it. You’re not made of cash, and buying might not even be worth it. All the time and money you put in could be for nothing if the book gets cancelled. I know how you feel, but if enough people become fans of a book, it won’t get cancelled. So all I’m asking is for you to try new things, and I’m giving you some options of new things to try.

I strongly recommend that you go out and support these series so that DC will continue to develop these interesting new ideas and characters and allow them to flourish. Try new things, and help to keep these cool concepts and interesting ideas from getting cancelled!

@noahthegrand - @BIGBMH - Hey, guys. I edited my article about what could have been if Mark Millar came back to write Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum over the past few months. And the plot details have been expanded throughout the past couple of months. What do you think of the updates?

@noahthegrand - Thanks!! I responded to your comment. And I added some plot details to the article. Hey, you wanna know what I think Marvel could've done for alternate post-credits scenes for Captain America: The First Avenger, Ant-Man 1 and Dr. Strange? Here are the details.
Captain America: the First Avenger: Captain America is introduced to Phil Coulson by Nick Fury as he boards the SHIELD Quinjet and he informs him he won't be alone in saving the world as there are other heroes they recruited for the Avengers Initiative as well and he is to lead them against the invasion.

Ant-Man: As Captain America, Winter Soldier and Falcon arrive at Hawkeye's house to recruit him, Falcon tells Cap more about "the guy" he mentioned before and Cap says they have a plan to recruit him to “the war”.

Doctor Strange: Thor has trouble, trying to find the Sanctum Sanctorum and then he hears a voice "Come to Greenwich Village". And he takes his advice, knowing he will help him and his brother Loki take their father Odin home, leading up to the scene that was already been shot.

Yeah, still kinda sad that Immortal Men got cancelled. It was the most interesting book out of these to me.
Still, from time to time I try to catch up with Damage and Silencer. They are pretty cool.
