GOTHAM Showrunner Promises Concrete Joker Details, Teases Upcoming Classic Villains

To joke, or not to joke? The nature and destiny of Cameron Monaghan's "Jerome" has been the subject of numerous discussions among fans. According to Gotham's showrunner, answers are coming soon, along with introductions to a pair of familiar villains!

Love it or hate it, "Gotham" has been getting a lot of attention recently over Cameron Monaghan's psychotic portrayal of Jerome, a character eerily similar to everyone's favourite Clown Prince of Crime. The only lingering issue is the lack of direct confirmation of whether or not Jerome is actually supposed to be the Joker. In a recent interview with Nerdist, "Gotham" showrunner Bruno Heller has promised fans that the second season will answer the question of Jerome's true identity, as well as delving further into the backstory of the Joker.

"We're going to be giving you concrete answers to his identity," Heller explained. "That story is going to come to a huge and shocking resolution which will explain the whole Joker myth and how it began and how the Joker came to be." Heller's use of the word "myth" here is interesting; could there be more to Jerome than we thought? Or is he a red herring to throw fans off the scent? Given that the Joker's past has always been shrouded in mystery, it will be interesting to see how Gotham deals with Jerome going forward.

Heller also confirmed that classic Batman villains Hugo Strange and Mr. Freeze will be making appearances down the line. "Something we're going to see this year is the underbelly of Wayne Enterprises, the Indian Hill bioengineering laboratory, the subterranean aspects of Wayne Enterprises. When we go there and see what they're doing down there, we're going to be introducing the great Dr. Hugo Strange and Mr. Freeze." Given the show's premise, it's probably safe to assume we might meet Nora Fries down the line as well!

What are your thoughts on Gotham and the Joker? Are you excited to Hugo Strange and Mr. Freeze? Any other characters you wish to see on Gotham? Sound off below!

If they just had everyone some years older, & Have Pre-Batman (As we know him) be an in the shadows heard of but never shown type figure. While focusing on GCPD & Maybe even a Bruce Wayne.. Since I assume the batsuit would be hard to pull off on a TV budget....

W.E, I got caught up on Netflix.. I'll watch for another 4 episodes till I get tired of it then Binge it on Netflix next year.

I don't think he's the Joker. It's too obvious at this point, so he'll probably die soon.

If he is a young Joker, he's doing one helluva job. I wanted to not like him, but he played the sadistic, twisted indiviual to well.

I like this show, but I think it contradicts so much of what we know of the Batman mythos.

If they kill him off or try to say that he somehow isn't the Joker, I'll just be completely done with this show.

Because what would piss me off faaarrr more than him having a backstory, which isn't really that big of a deal, would be them trying to say the REAL Joker was inspired by someone else.

@OneBadDay: I'll remember your statements. Stay true to your word and be done with this show after tonight. I will hound you if you don't. No more Gotham for you. Use the hour to read a book or something.
