...and that's a wrap on Joker: Folie à Deux!

After nearly four months of filming, Academy Award-nominated director Todd Phillips (JokerThe Hangover; Old School) has announced the end of filming on his highly-anticipated Joker sequel, which is currently scheduled to open in theaters worldwide on October 4, 2024.

Filming began in mid-December, with a majority of the shoot taking place at the abandoned Essex County Isolation Hospital, which will serve as Arkham Asylum. The film started making headlines last month when the film's high-profile stars were seen shooting across New York City, including on the "Joker Stars" on West 167th Street in the Bronx.

Academy Award-winner Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator; Walk the Line) reprises his iconic role as Arthur Fleck, a.k.a. the Clown Prince of Crime, with fellow Oscar-winner Lady Gaga (A Star is BornHouse of Gucci) joining the cast as his leading lady Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a.k.a. Harley Quinn.

Primetime Emmy-nominee Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2Atlanta) will also reprise her role as Sophie Dumond, while the supporting cast consists of Academy Award-nominee Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin; Edge of Tomorrow), 2x Academy Award-nominee Catherine Keener (The 40-Year-Old VirginThe Adam Project), Jacob Lofland (The SonMaze Runner: The Death Cure), and Harry Lawtey (IndustryThe Pale Blue Eye).

Please be good.

But then again, this goes farther than just being a good movie. This film needs to walk on glass to avoid ruining the ambiguity that made the original so good.

@Origame - The fact that they're now doing Harley Quinn's origin seems to tread all over that ambiguity.

Or a the fact that they're doing a sequel at all, really.

I thought this was coming out in 2024. It says 2023 in the article.

@blitzkreg - lol I see it below...and I agree about Lady Gaga's acting chops....A Star is Born was the first acting of hers I'd seen and I was blown away. If Todd Phillips nails all of...whatever he's trying to do here, Gaga could arguably own this character.

@GhostDog - beau and napoleon are gonna go hard, especially if the latter's as good or better than last duel, but i just meant the shit he has lined up to shoot after this. that pta/leo/phoenix project is gonna be insane though, especially with regina hall as the female lead haha.

@regularmovieguy - hopefully it's more original than Midsommar. That film ripped off 1973's the Wickerman in all the most obvious of ways. It's an okay film but Wickerman is the Citizen Kane of horror... the bear suit as a nod to the awful Nic Cage remake was cute tho.

Cautiously anticipating this one. Joker was such a compelling movie, that I’m hoping lightning can strike twice.

@tmp3 - I agree completely...that's gotta be a real thing

I swear Infinity War/Endgame predicted a real-world Blip/Quantum-style-5-hours-is-actually-5-years Hybrid that's been taking place for well over a year but I really feel now

Endgame actually takes place in 2023 so technically Phase 4 hasn't really happened yet or something? Maybe that's why this latest phase ain't hittin right lol

@GhostDog - Infinity War turns 5 years end of this month and Endgame - 4 years.

Infinity War will be now half-way through the total distance that the first Avengers (2012) had passed last year since its release.

It’s surprising to me that they just wrapped filming and it’s not coming out for over a year yet. If it had a lot of computer effects, I can understand, but it seems like they could have this all pretty easily put together for a late 2023 release or early 2024.

I just don’t want to have to wait until October 2024 to see this! The original and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood were the last two movies I saw in the theater before lockdown.

I'm cautious about this one. Some films don't need sequels. Joker was a self contained interesting study. I don't think it needed to add to the world.

My hope is Todd realized that too, and the only reason THIS is happening is because he found an interesting way to play in this sandbox one more time.

With that in mind, I'm going into this with the same expectations I'd have if I made this film... its an experiment. Just kind of a fun project he got to create with creative people he wanted to work with and WB footed the bill for play time.
