Warner Bros. has yet to confirm that an origin story for The Joker is in the works or the name of the new DC Films banner which will herald a wave of standalone DC Comics adaptations. However, a new report from Variety points to the studio taking full advantage of the chance to tell some stories set outside of the DC Extended Universe which won't have to adhere to continuity and a shared world.

According to the trade, "the banner is intended to give the studio the chance to expand the canon with unusual story angles." They go on to confirm that the banner will be completely separate from the world of movies like Justice League and Aquaman and that this is part of the studio's plan to focus on "auteur-driven" films rather than being laden in continuity such as those released by Marvel.

So, is this an amazing idea or a sign that Warner Bros. has given up on creating a shared universe? We'll have to wait and see but it's going to be very interesting seeing how this banner comes together.

After all, movies like Shazam and Batgirl could easily fit into these to avoid being bogged down by continuity but that's surely going to confuse a lot of moviegoers. What do you think? Sound off below.

The idea is amazing, this way you ALSO build the Multiverse.
However...
If they intend to do it in near future...That is wrong man....so wrong...

@Doomsday8888 - Why is it wrong? Because the DCEU isn't "built up" yet?

Just because they move faster than Marvel did doesn't mean they're doing it wrong.

@kong -
I think everybody needs time to adjust to the main universe, instead of moving their attention to something else entirely.
The Multiverse is a very complicated concept, for anyone, this could confuse the audience so you gotta take time, introduce aaall the main heroes, like Flash and GLs, and only THEN start to make this movies.
Believe me, i support this idea, but not in this stage.
Shit, i even want a crossover, you know? Like the Crime Syndicate as villain for the DCEU.
One they day could even make a Crisis movie with Anti-Monitor as the main villain!

@Doomsday8888 - I think it smarter to present all the crazy shit now because if it was in reverse....the crazy shit later would make it look like they are grasping for ideas.

Spiderman 1-3 was crazy off the bat because that was the world and people just accepted it. Then you have a film series like X-Men that started off pretty ground than just went off the rails when they added Apocalypse tried to get all superheroy after years of reality based stories.

Do all the crazy shit now to set a tone & feel for what the DC Universe really is. I saw Doomsday, Enchantress, and Flash (coming out the friggen speed force lol) now literally anything can happen!

@Doomsday8888 - I don't think they're introducing a multiverse, they're just making movies in the same way any other regular movie studio would. Pitch us ideas, we just might green light it and it just might be a success. It's not gonna be confusing for audiences since the multiverse is only confusing when crossed-over, and the whole point of these films is to keep them away from those.

"the studio's plan to focus on "auteur-driven" films rather than being laden in continuity such as those released by Marvel."

Or, y'know. Like the rest of the DCEU.

And, y'know. Like CBMs have always been until/before the MCU. Is this supposed to be innovative? Because it's fine if they do it, but this isn't anything new.

It may work or not, but i like the idea...one shot comicbook movies, THAT ARE NOT CONNECTED..TO THIS WHOLE NOTION...THAT IF YOU MAKE A COMICBOOK MOVIE..IT HAS TO FIT IN THE SHARED UNIVERSE....
Take the handcuffs of film makers..give them some freedom to tell some great individual stories...the possibilities are endless..
