CG artist and animation director Alireza Fattahi is beginning to make waves on YouTube with his upcoming, cg animated passion project, Batman: Gotham Renedgae. Check out a short teaser below, along with a few additional videos showcasing Fattahi's behind-the-scenes work on the project.
Would you head to the cinema to check out a CG-animated Batman project? It seems like DC Studios is leaving money on the table by not diving into animated features.
Fattahi continues to update his work on the project, via his LinkedIn profile.
"Just to remind everyone that I'm still working on my Batman short animation, I've done yet another very short scene, adding in some fun extras this time, like a cape and facial animations as per your requests! And with an official title this time! Introducing Batman: Gotham Renegade. Also, Big shoutout to my awesome animator buddy, Navid Tanzifian, for putting up with my endless tweaks and requests. Rendered in Unreal Engine with Lumen."
His professional experience seems focused on the video game industry with credits on Ghostrunner 2, the Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons remake, and several other titles.
Fattahi also previously wrote, "My little Batman teaser got more than 300k views on YouTube! While it might not be considered huge by YouTube standards, it marks a significant milestone for me and provides strong motivation to -hopefully-complete the entire project this year."
Fattahi has revealed that he's doing most of the work in Unreal Engine 5.
Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5 is a sophisticated real-time 3D creative tool officially released in April 2022.
Unreal Engine 5 is intended to be more powerful and efficient than previous versions. It includes a virtualized micropolygon geometry system that allows for the creation of highly detailed environments, a fully dynamic global illumination system that responds in real time to changes in lighting and shadows, and a new particle system that allows for the creation of complex and realistic particle effects.
Responding to comments, Fattahi confirmed that it only took him a day or 2 to design the Batcave, an impressive feat that shows just how powerful the latest version of Unreal Engine is in comparison to past iterations.
Are you interesting in seeing a full-length animated Batman film done in this style? Or do you think the style of animation done in Unreal Engine is better left to video game cutscenes? Let us know in the comment section below.
