Quentin Tarantino & Oliver Stone Knock BATMAN

Quentin Tarantino & Oliver Stone Knock BATMAN

In separate interviews, Quentin Tarantino ("Pulp Fiction") and Oliver Stone ("Any Given Sunday"), both take shots at Batman. Quentin, doesn't think The Dark Knight is all that interesting, while Oliver doesn't think comic book movies are showing authentic violence.

Quentin Tarantino recently chatted with the French weekly, Les Inrockuptibles ( via Indiewire), in which he explained his love for the box office flop, The Lone Ranger, which surprisingly made his top ten. He also discussed his lack of interest in Batman, but did mention an actor that would've been perfect for the role... several decades ago.
“I have to admit that I don’t really have an opinion,” he said. “Why? Because Batman is not a very interesting character. For any actor. There is simply not much to play. I think Michael Keaton did it the best, and I wish good luck to Ben Affleck. But, you know who would have made a great Batman? Alec Baldwin in the ’80s.”

And then there is Oliver Stone, who shared with Forbes his displeasure with one key scene from the Breaking Bad finale, and used Batman and Superman films as examples of violence being portrayed in an unrealistic way. “It’s only in the movies that you find this kind of fantasy violence. And that’s infected the American culture; you young people believe all of this shit! Batman and Superman, you’ve lost your minds, and you don't even know it! At least respect violence. I’m not saying don’t show violence, but show it with authenticity."

Stone does believe something interesting could be generated from one particular comic book superhero, "But I think there might be in Iron Man… there could be some good stories about war profiteering, some good moral tales. I agree. Comics were that for that reason, remember? But when you’ve reached this height of technology level of a Michael [Bay], of a Transformers, I don’t understand the meaning of it and the reason for it, except that it appeals to some visual sense, some kinetic sense of dynamism and a need for action. But action is not always a solution, character is.”

Alec Baldwin did The Shadow, in the early '90s. That's not too far removed from an '80s Baldwin playing Batman. Andthatflm was even better than the Lone Ranger.

Tarantino first couple of movies are a copy of old chinese films. He should stop acting like he knows it all, his movies are overrated.

DISCLAIMER: I apologise in advance for the swearing content but its not meant maliciously nor aimed at anyone & it serves the purpose of my argument...if you are a little kid reading this with your parents please ignore my comment & move on to others!

Actually I kinda agree with the violence thing in a round-a-bout way...in fact no, its not the violence, its the fact that no one in New York drops an F-Bomb when the debris is smashing into things from explosions caused by aliens & superheroes...I realise it has to be child friendly due to the very nature of superheroes but come on, anyone in New York City the day of the Avengers vs Chitari isgonna be screaming those cuss words...at least in UK if London was attacked & we were saved by Hulk & Thor we say "Bloody hell!" or "For [frick] sake gents!"

Maybe I just have a foul mouth that needs a good soaping, but for me I can suspend my disbelief up until the point Superman & Zod almost level a building & I'm trying to get my colleague to safety, I'd be screaming: "[frick]IN SHIFT YOU [frick]IN SHITTY ROCK [foo foo]!"

Tarantino has notoriously awful taste in movies, but whatever helps him make his own amazing is fine by me. Oliver Stone stopped trying make audience-friendly movies years ago.

Tarantino has a flare for the ultra violence so it make sense that a character like Batman doesn't interest him.He likes his characters to be able to kill.As for Stone I'm not sure what he talking about all movie and tv show violence is fake violence.By which I mean it's either totally implausible or unrealistic.

@CapnSquintyEyes Really now? TARANTINO HAS AWFUL TASTE IN MOVIES?!

Frances Ha is legit, Gravity is legit. His films pay homage (and sometimes rip-offs) to very iconic/cult films from very famous auteurs.

I love reading the comments from little fanboys who take such insult if someone dares point out the shit in their favorite films.
It was also a blast to see many fanboys proclaim Armie Hammer the best choice for Batman then they turned on him like scorned women when he said he wouldnt play Batman.

I don't like Tarantino's overrated films such as Django which was as ludicrous as Saturday Night Live or the vastly over appreciated Pulp Fiction. But he has a point that Batman isnt interesting. One reason for that is that Batman's story ends the moment he becomes Batman. His arc and character growth are over. After that its just Batman VS the Badguy of the week.

Stone is absolutely correct about the mindless action in Man Of Steel. MOS did not develop the characters and the film fell apart into an exhibition of destruction by Supermen.
The shit film did appease fans who play so many video games that they think any and all CGI destruction makes a film great but all the action in MOS was hollow. It had no meaning because the characters meant nothing.

Still, I'm going to enjoy the infantile responses from little butthurt monkeys as they defend their favorite CGI shit candy!

QT's is fine, not everone needs to love the Bat, Baldwin would of been an awesome Batman based on voice alone.

Stone's is a bit more... stupid. The movies are the only place we have this fantasy violence? Have you never seen a child play with a toy gun? A video game? A book that glorified warfare?

I dislike displays of gratuitous violence just for shock value if it doesn't add anything to the story.

Sounds like Stone took a shot at Michael Bay.

The man who directed Savages and Natural Born Killers is complaining about a lack of authentic violence in films featuring super powered characters. I mean, okay then.

I also don't understand the need for condescension towards younger people, because I don't know anyone who saw Man of Steel and thought, "Wow, just like real life!"

Tarantino has a point, Alec Baldwin can be quit threatening in his roles (and also personally according to his former Wife Kim Basinger). However long past his physical prime to pull of the part.

@marvel72
That was another Baldwin, Adam Baldwin to be exact most known for tv:s X-Files, Chuck and Firefly. Not one of the "Baldwin brothers" however, not related.
