The Batman opened to widespread acclaim in 2022 but, by the time The Batman Part II arrives in theaters, roughly five and a half years will have passed since we first saw Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader in action.

There's been chatter online about filmmaker Matt Reeves dealing with personal issues, possibly explaining why the sequel hasn't taken shape as quickly as fans would like. 2023's WGA strikes also slowed down work on the movie, so the odds have been well and truly stacked against this one for a while now.

Pattinson is doing the rounds to promote Mickey 17 and recently acknowledged, "I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f***ing old Batman by the sequel."

Technikart Magazine caught up with the actor and started by quizzing him about shooting Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey later this year. "I have absolutely no right to tell you, I can't even tell you where we're going to shoot," Pattinson said with a laugh. "It's top secret!"

"I'm going to shoot [The Batman Part II] after The Odyssey, at the end of the year," he then confirmed. "I only have a vague idea of the script."

Pushed on whether the Dark Knight will square off with Barry Keoghan's Joker, Pattinson teased, "Yeah, no, I don't know. Potentially..."

Reflecting on being cast as the World's Greatest Detective, he added, "I wait a long time sometimes for a movie or a filmmaker, and yes, there is also a huge element of luck. Listen, for The Batman, it was very strange. I never auditioned, and I had never played a superhero before."

"Two or three years before I got the part, I started thinking about it, when I really had no chance of playing Batman. And then, slowly, it was like an alignment of planets," Pattinson concluded.

In The Batman, The Riddler was defeated by the Dark Knight and locked up in Arkham. Then, in the closing moments of the movie, the serial killer made a new friend who we later discovered was Barry Keoghan's Joker.

Warner Bros. eventually released an extended deleted scene from the movie while it was still in theaters which saw Batman visiting The Joker in Arkham to see if his twisted mind could help track down Edward Nashton. It turns out the vigilante had placed the villain behind bars during his "Year One" in Gotham City, setting the stage for an inevitable rematch between the two arch nemeses.

"It's a big one, but I am going to say that, if the opportunity came about, yes, I'd love to explore, and given the opportunity, really dive into it," Keoghan has said of a possible return. "But I have not been contacted, I've not heard anything."

The Batman 2 will be released in theaters on October 1, 2027.

Keoghan looked like a bad fan film Joker.

@PartyKiller - Yeah. The Batman is NOT the be all, end all some folks think it is...

@Batmangina - You think that because you don’t know what real cinematography is.

@TheNewYorker - The cinematography on The Batman was top notch. I mean it was really amazing how inventive and beautiful the cinematography was. Aside from that the film was incredibly mid

@DarthOmega - I can agree with that LOL

@TheNewYorker - Some of the shots were fantastic but it wasn't [frick]ing Lawrence of Arabia.

Also, it's a Batman movie - even Nolan managed to get the spectacular IMAX shots in TDK trilogy and didn't go off the rails until the final film.

Aside from the subway fight, I don't remember ANYTHING from The Batman - other than that deleted Joker abortion of a scene.

@Batmangina - It is surprising how many people under 25 have not seen great movies from the 80s to even the past several years. Classics shown on TV like mad such as Die Hard, Tombstone, Lethal Weapon, First Blood, Nolan's Bat-Trilogy, are among the movies they have not seen.

They only know video games, Marvel movies, some Walking Dead seasons, maybe 3 out of 10 have seen Lucas' Star Wars.

To some of them, The Batman is a ground breaking movie. To others is was like a TV pilot for a Batman series inspired by Nolan's movies.

I would be pretty pleased if they had Joker show up again, even if its a small role that sets him up for a bigger role in the third.

I kind of hope they reconfigure his look a little bit though if I'm being totally honest. I by no means hated what Reeves decided to go with. But to me it feels a little over the top, and leans too far into horror. I'm cool with the idea of it being a genetic condition that makes him look such a way. I definitely dig where that idea can take such a character. I just can't help but feel that the design doesn't fit the grounded universe he's in, as they took it a little too far. Pull back on the monstrosity a bit and I think it would be awesome.

TheVisionary25 - 3/7/2025, 7:17 AM
@RedFury - the Reeves universe is grounded but it also feels just stylized enough aswell imo to have a Joker like that imo…

I do agree though it’s a bit too much so hopefully they tweak the look a bit or so which they could since we saw it only in a deleted scene
RedFury
RedFury - 3/7/2025, 9:52 AM
@TheVisionary25 - yeah, if they tone it down just a little I think it would feel a lot more fitting in that world.

Because you're right when you say that Reeves-verse is grounded, but still stylized enough with characters like Penguin, Riddler, and Cat Woman looking like they do - so having a grotesque Joker still works. He just needs to look a little less prostheticy imo.

I’m not against the disfigurement approach; that’s how Nicholson started actually before he gets plastic surgery and makes lots of sense if you fall into a vat of chemicals tbh. BUT the direction for Barry was TERRIBLE. Horrible lines and line delivery. Leto level of cringe for me.

I say recast for completely overhaul the voice and give him plastic surgery.
RedFury
RedFury - 3/7/2025, 12:21 PM
@HulkisHoly - the plastic surgery angle would be a great homage to Nicholsons Joker, and definitely a way to change his look if they want to do it in story. That's a fun idea!

Barry is a great actor, but I won't disagree that he didn't really sell me on it. I think the laugh is what mainly didn't work for me. Seemed like too much of a snicker, rather than an insane persons cackle. I'd be up for giving him another chance, but definitely needs a tighter performance.

1stDalek - 3/7/2025, 6:32 PM
@RedFury - I agree, the make was just a bit too much to the point, I feel, distracts from his performance. I like the overall idea behind it, just needs some toning down to make it more impactful, and hopefully also give him the chalk white skin.

As a secondary villian who batman visits in prison to interrogate and ask questions to help solve his current situation I'm fine with...however for the love of God change his look. He looked f*cking terrible. Change the design please and thank you

Dude’s my favorite live action Batman so far so I’m glad he was cast aswell!!.

Also while I wasn’t a big fan of the look , I enjoyed Barry Keoghan’s performance in the deleted scene we got so I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a more back as this version of the Joker again in a more prominent role…

However I do hope for the sequel atleast we get a new villain that hasn’t been done on the big screen at all like Hugo Strange or in awhile like Mr Freeze before going back to the clown well.

I could live without another joker, for now. Though I can’t imagine he would be the main villain.

It's like an even edgier version of Heath Ledger. Heath Ledgier.

Joker won’t be the main villain, and it’s crazy that people STILL take Pattinson’s word during interviews when he’s known to screw around in them all the time.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 3/7/2025, 8:27 AM
@DTor91 - I would not t mind if Joker remains a Hannibal Lecter type character that Batman goes to for help at times as it was in that deleted scene…

That’s an interesting dynamic we haven’t seen before in relation to to those characters

@TheJok3r -

I'm still laughing that he didn't want to be the DCU Batman because he didn't want to spend a decade making Batman movies. he started shooting the first Batman movie 5 years ago. And the next movie is 2 years away. ROFL!

TheJok3r
TheJok3r - 3/7/2025, 8:40 AM
@DocSpock - He didn't want to play Batman for a decade on a continuous basis where he's filming a movie every year. Since he filmed Batman he was in 2 critically acclaimed movies, and will be in a 3rd one for Nolan before the cameras role on Batman 2. He wouldn't be able to do that if he was stuck filming cameos and team up movies for the MCU or DCU.

True, but still funny. I don't think his Batman 3 ever happens, and I'm good with that.

@DocSpock - What are the chances Battinson 2 ever happens? There's still no script, Reeves is fighting with the missus, Pattinson is in demand and the popularity of this Reeves Gotham is a threat to Gunn's universe and Gunn just so happens to be in charge.
TheJok3r
TheJok3r - 3/7/2025, 8:59 AM
@ObserverIO - Gunn has no control over Reeves' projects.
JustAWaffle

@DocSpock - it’s a 6 year by 6 year basis.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 3/7/2025, 9:16 AM
@TheJok3r - It does seem that way. Gunn is in charge of DC Studios and therefore Reeves shouldn't be able to do anything without Gunn's consent. But then Gunn says that nothing gets a green light without a script and yet Reeves has been talking about going into production this year without a finished script.

It could be that the contract that Reeves signed with WB in still in effect and gives him more power than he should have.
Zaslav was supposed to create a studio to focus the DC brand and yet he lets this kind of thing happen smh.

If Superman underperforms then they'll actually do BattinsonMan 2.

If Superman is successful then BattinsonMan2 will be postponed again and then quietly cancelled.
Scarilian
Scarilian - 3/7/2025, 5:55 PM
@ObserverIO -
I imagine Gunn is lying, as he's been known to lie constantly.

Gunn hates the idea of anyone else using Batman, he specifically wants to write a Batman movie and has set plans to do a Brave & The Bold film with Damian Wayne.

Most likely option is that he needs Superman to be successful so he has the leverage to tell Warner Brothers to ditch Battinson 2. If Superman is a failure then Warner Brothers will continue with Battinson 2 to see if that performs well.
