THE BATMAN: DC Fan Decides To Miss Birth Of His Child To Watch The Movie In Effort To Avoid Spoilers

We all hate having highly anticipated movies or TV shows spoiled for us in advance, but one DC Comics fan might have taken things a step too far by deciding to see The Batman instead of his child's birth.

In recent years, fans have become increasingly sensitive about spoilers. While it's easy enough to understand why people wouldn't want the biggest surprises in movie and TV shows ruined in advance, we've reached a point where some consider casting news or even officially released posters and footage "spoilers."

Regardless, there are those willing to go to extremes to avoid learning of any potential plot twists or cameos in advance, including one fan who is clearly very excited about The Batman.

Posted on the "Am I The Asshole?" page on Reddit, one pregnant DC fan's wife has explained that her due date is March 4. However, her other half has made it clear he needs to see The Batman that day, "because of spoilers and that, even if I end up having the baby that day while he is watching the movie, at worst he would arrived a few hours late and is not such a big deal."

To make matters worse, the guy has told his other half that "[she's] being irrational and emotional because of being pregnant."

We're not sure why he couldn't make it to one of the early IMAX screenings on March 1 (tickets did sell out almost immediately, to be fair) or Thursday evening screenings on March 3. It's possible that's the date this woman is referring to, but either way, it's clear where his priorities lie! The Batman is a movie shrouded in secrecy and there are already rumours of a huge cameo.

The question is, is he the asshole? The general consensus on Reddit appears to be a resounding "yes."

The Batman is set to be released in theaters on March 4.

@OptimusCrime - blaming batman is just an excuse. You can tell its more than just trying to avoid spoilers. Maybe something rocky is going on with their relationship.....

But imagine telling ur child this story later on in life, u prob wont get anything on fathers day lol

But if he just spends time with his wife and newborn child, would he even have time to go online and get spoiled?

@bkmeijer - any dude terrified of spoilers to this degree is probably also chronically online,so he's probably not going to be able to stay off of social media for more than a few hours no matter what

@bkmeijer - being a parent myself and at the birth of all my kids, no he wont have time

@Arthorious - Exactly. I was there from start to finish for the birth of both of my daughters and the only time I took my phone out of my pocket was to take pictures after they were born. I think that if I were sitting there reading spoilers on my phone while my wife was giving birth she would have speared me with her IV rack ;). Seriously, the only times that I left my wife's side during the couple of days that we were at the hospital were to go pick up her parents after the babies were born (they can't drive) and when she sent me down the hall for snacks. I remember every minute of my kids' births from the time we got in the car to go to the hospital to driving everyone home (from there it gets a little hazy as the exhaustion set in). I can't fathom missing any of that for something as (comparatively) worthless as a movie. I'm not even willing to risk my kids' health by going to see Spider-Man NWH and possibly bringing back COVID, much less willing to be late or possibly even miss their birth for a movie (and Spidey is my favorite superhero). Pretty sure if I did that there would truly be NWH for me (see what I did there? Yeah I'm having a clever morning). Anyhow, I hope that this is a fake post and if not all I can say is that there is a special place in hell for someone who would do this and if he's going to wish he was there after his wife gets done with him. But, hey, maybe I'm just being old-fashioned for wanting to actually be physically there for those once in a lifetime events like the births of your children. And if you really worried about "The Batman" spoilers, I've done some research and I think I have a possible solution (as risky as it may sound): don't click on any news articles or videos that have the word "Batman" in the title, and wait 2 months for the damn movie to come out on disk/HBO Max. And you know what you can do in the meantime? Help your wife with the baby. She's going to need all the help she can get, trust me. Okay, I'm done now. Anyone else want to borrow my soapbox? It's all yours ;)

30yrs later: "Dad....... just looking some advice, you know Rachel is pregnant and I think I want to be there for the birth. Do you remember that day? Was it traumatic for you to sit through?"
- "Well it was good and bad son. I initially had a hard time accepting the idea of Pattinson as Batman but then I figured, he's played a vampire before and it's not a massive leap conceptually to imagine him as a man who dresses as a bat instead. You know, with the whole bat/vampire thing. So I went into the movie with a kind of nervous trepidation, but I had faith that Reeves would do it justice and what do you know...... he did! The popcorn was epic in that venue too but I do recall that the soda tasted a little watered down. So yeah, er ... go for it."

@billnye69 - why is he a loser? The chances that the baby comes in those 3 hrs seems unlikely. Due dates are hardly ever accurate. Put your phone on vibrate or better yet bring your wife to the theatre. Life doesn’t stop bc your wife is pregnant.

@whynot - Because he has childish immature priorities.

@billnye69 -
The chances that the baby will be born not only the day of due date but in a span of those 3 hrs seem slim. Why can’t she go with him to the theatre or he can put his phone on vibrate. If the baby was guaranteed to come within those 3 hrs then I can agree with ya. Is he not supposed to work or do anything within the week or 2 the baby “might” come? Seems like a dramatic request to say dude can’t go to the movies and put phone on vibrate.

“ My (25F) husband (28M) and I are expecting a baby. As you may know, there is a new Batman movie releasing on early march. My husband is a big fan of that kind of stuff and wants to see it opening day. The issue is that our estimated due date is exactly on that day. I know that only a fraction of babies are actually born on the exact due day but I have always been very regular on my periods and I have a feeling that I may be one of those cases.

No this can’t be real. Why would you miss the birth of your child for a movie? Even though I like CBMs this is a new level of low for any individual.
