The Dark Knight Rises Gets A $250 Million Budget

The LA Times is reporting that Christopher Nolan's next installment in his Batman franchise The Dark Knight Rises, will have a budget of at least $250 million...

Many of us have been wondering what the budget for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises will be, and now the folks over at The LA Times have an article up about the partnership between Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. in which they reveal that The Dark Knight Rises will have a whopping $250 million for it's budget.

"While Legendary was a 50/50 partner on 2008’s “The Dark Knight,” which grossed more than $1 billion worldwide and sold 16 million DVDs, the film financing and production company has for months been trying to secure a similar ownership stake in the sequel. The film, which like the last two Batman pictures will be directed by Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, is expected to cost at least $250 million to produce."

Nolan's previous Batman movies had quite a bit less than that for a budget:

Batman Begins: Approx. $150 million

The Dark Knight: Approx. $185 million

With a $250 million budget, I think it's safe to assume that Nolan will have some seriously amazing scenes in store for us.

Avengers gets 170 million (with 5 superheroes -- one of which, the Hulk, is entirely digital -- and who knows how many villains) and this gets a whopping $80 million more.

hmmmmmm......

@MrSuperheromoviefan Agreed. While I'm relieved that they're not afraid to spend money on this, I can't help but to remember that Spider-Man 3 also had a $250 million budget, and we all know how that turned out...

Still, it's Christopher Nolan, and I trust that he knows what he's doing.

$250 million,for what none of the actors fees come close to this size budget.

the cgi effects of making bane the size he should be in the comics doesn't cost that much.

hows that for a budget avengers???
yeah warner bros is not saving any money.green lantern budget will also end up close to 250 mill,and you can be sure that man of steel will have 180-200 mill too.

I seriously doubt the movie will reflect this ridiculous budget. They should switch budgets with The Avengers.

@Spidey91, NeoBaggins

you do realise the Avenger budget make sense since its the first movie. if the first Avenger movie does well the budget will be higher.

@marvel72

they aint going to cgi Bane size.

@PaulRom

yeah but TDK made 1 billion. of cause the budget will get more. when the first movie does well the budget for the sequel goes up.

Not surprised really, they will give Nolan any amount of cash to make this after what TDK made.

Something tells me that Nolan can pretty much have whatever he wants. I think he'll be responsbile with it but if this thing say go to 300 mil I can guarantee that no one is gonna tell him otherwise. (Not that it'll get that high but you know what I mean)

Awesome that he's getting more than Avengers is. Well deserved budget.

PaulRom - 5/12/2011, 2:03 PM
I'm thinking this will be much more CGI-heavy than the first two films. Between Bane and the rumors of the Lazarus Pit, it might be much more than the crime thriller that TDK was.

Avengers budget make sense since its the very first Avengers movie.

If their giving it this kind of budget because they think lightning will strike twice, they are in for a surprise.

The only reason The Dark Knight pulled the money it did was because the hype surrounding Ledger's death. The story was ok, not great, and Ledger's performance was meh at best. Batman Begins was a far better film.

Without the death of a prominent cast member I say it'll only make 250-300 mil U.S. tops.

A huge chunk goes to the returning actors, returning creators, and advertising. Bale is most certainly making more for this film than the last... he knows they need him, so of course his salary goes up. Same goes for Nolan. In terms of actual production, the budget is probably not much different than TDK or Batman Begins.

for that much money they should just do a CGI bane.
HelaGood

i think most of that is to pay for all the actors' salaries and Bale's ego.
